Colour: gold. Nose: this baby’s very extremely close to the previous 1996, except that the passion fruits and maybe notes of melon seem to come earlier. With water: same farmyardy notes. Mouth (neat): very similar again. Passion fruits, peaches, jellybeans, a very wee touch of salt… With water: again, extremely similar. Pink grapefruits, sweets, jell-o, ginger and pepper… The salt is gone, it seems. Finish: rather long, with some tinned fruits, liqueurs, this ginger again, a little quinine perhaps… And a touch of soot. Comments: really very close – so very good, I think. The cleanest side of Ben Nevis. SGP:552 – 86 points.
- Well, I like Ben Nevis in general, that is, mind you, only the good stuff.
And this one surely makes me realize I'll have to look more into 96 Ben Nevis. The MOS 16yo was great, the 15yo OB's were amazing…
This one has again exactly that nose I'm looking for. Big on banana's and brown sugared butter milk. And indeed, as mark stated, the baby's fruit mix with Betterfood. My youth starts rolling out in my mind… that's why I'm having this baby right now in the morning! Old breakfast habit nose!!!!
The flavor has the same with a good creaminess with some wood bitters. Great great stuff. This really rocks my boat! Great selection, and what a bottling to have as a Clubbotteling.

The nose is hearty
and rich on peach, brown sugar, burnt malt, a touch of banana, caramelized
oranges (loads of it, actually) and a whiff of nougat. Reminds me of the fruit
mix with cookies that you serve a baby. Yoghurt. Becomes nicely creamy. This is
off to a good start.
creamy and spicy on the palate. Feisty animal. Immediately sweet with an oaken
edge. The citrus evolves towards slightly bitter grapefruit. Nice trace of
woodsmoke. Apricots drenched in honey. Pepper, ginger, bit of cloves. Something
mentholated too. There is a lot going on here.
The finish is pretty
long and very spicy. It dies a bittersweet death.
