    This is a big dram.

    Enjoyable and fun, but not subtle.
    • Nose

      A little sulphur but like someone else said, there’s lots going on that you move on from it. Sulphur is in struck match form, it’s rather faint. There’s an umami note that is pretty bold. Tomato paste in the tin can. Oily coffee beans, really fat and rich.

      Rich, oily. Sulphur again but faint. More tomato paste, beef bullion. Viney, vegemite? Wild stuff but pleasant all the way

      Long, rich. Tomato vine, calcium, tablet, leaves, bay leaf, herbs, deglazed beef pan. Barolo.

    SMWS Tasting Notes
    Colour: Fox tail

    Flavour Profile: Oily & coastal

    The first whiff was just like striking a match and lighting
    a gas stove to cook pork tenderloin studded with garlic as well as salty strips
    of bacon. This was followed by sweet aromas of maple syrup, toasted bagels and
    barbecue baked sweet potatoes. The initial taste was like the ignition of the
    gas fire before maritime flavours of lobster shells, langoustines, mussels and
    oily mackerels emerged. Water released toasted marshmallows and toffee apples
    with a Caesar Cocktail (a Bloody Mary with Clamato instead of tomato juice). We
    then all enjoyed a corn on the cob with salted butter and baked salmon
    croquettes.

    Drinking Tip: Before, during and after a barbeque on the beach.

    Colour:   Fox tail

    Flavour Profile: Oily & coastal

    NOSE: Sulphur rears its head early, but is overwhelmed by
    the many other goodies packed into the spirit. There’s soft peat, burning
    candles, cardboard boxes, toffee, cakes baking away in the oven, smoked fish,
    beeswax, lanolin, and bush fires off in the distance.  Water reminded us of honey on porridge.

    PALATE: A very sticky and tacky mouthfeel. Tannic,
    mouthwatering, and tasty!  Thankfully,
    there’s no sulphur on the palate. 
    Demerara sugar, coffee crystals. 
    The sherry dominates the peat. 
    Water opens up Throaties lozenges, buttered crumpets, and black jelly
    babies.

    FINISH: Very powerful, with a slightly sour note that gives
    a pleasant tingle.  VERY long and
    lingering….

    COMMENTS: Big, bold, a little clumsy; a lot of fun; and
    quite a palate pick-me-up. We enjoyed this tremendously - it’s a fun ride,
    without taking itself too seriously or pretending to be a Macallan 30yo.

    I might have had a bad bottle: The nose, taste and finish were all affected by a powerful off-note of sewage water. It was difficult to concentrate of the other notes behind it.
