  1. Thermidor scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

This is a nice, firm whisky on the tongue, but perhaps the finishing was too much? Although a strongly peated whisky, this one feels gentle and round for a Laphroaig and reminds me more of Octomore or other modern heavily wooded and wined whiskies than traditional Islay material. Still, a good dram and not at all watery like the current 10yo.
    • Nose
Sherry and peat. I’m putting it so banally because that’s all there is: that woodsmoke of Laphroaig and a steady, fruity and chocolate-y sherry covering it. Iodine, bandages and minerality are all MIA or lost beneath the wall of sherry. Time doesn’t change it, nor do a few drops of water.
    • Taste
Yep, the finishing has sanded off a lot of the detail on the finely carved figurehead that is (was?) the Laphroaig distillate. The end result is a tidy and neat sherry Lap, safe as the PX cask but equally ever so slightly boring. I was hoping for more medicinal and marine touches. A few drops of water make the peat a bit rougher which may or may not suit you.
    • Finish
Lasts a while and is full, but consists only of the Lap wood coal peat and sherry notes. No detail or idiosyncrasies present, sadly.

The best mild smoke I’ve ever tasted

  4. croz scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

An odd but very good Laphroaig
    • Nose
      Thin, peat and white wine.
With a drop of water, more creamy, soft smoke and wet cardboard
    • Taste
      Salt, smooth, mild peat, violet
    • Finish
Long and intensive with a dry taste of peat
