What was that horny part please? I liked that very much.
    • Nose
      Blind Sample:

      Colour:
      red-brown

      Nose:
Already when pouring filter coffee and liquorice came out of the glass. Oh ... this is going to be fun ...
Heavy, thick leather. Herbs and a flag of smoke. It smells of wet wood, burned caramel, some salt and overripe plums. He has such a cool, dirty touch, on which I totally go. Let's stand something ..... there will certainly be some ....
It's getting spicier now. Pepper, lovage, wet pipe tobacco and slightly sour orange. Blackberries, men's chocolate and roasted almonds.
There's more to discover, but I really want to try it now. Great nose!
    • Taste
Full, spicy start. Röstaromen, leather, pepper and slightly burnt cake spices.
The second sip comes a distinct, meringled woody aroma with pickled sour cherries and elderberries. This subtle smokiness accompanies nicely the tobacco and a pleasant menthol note. A certain amount of nuttiness opens up and brings cocoa. The orange also remains in the taste, hanging as a sour counterpoint.
    • Finish
Long and oily with herbs. Then it gets a little drier and the oak comes. Before it fades with dark berries, liquorice and a flag smoke.

A very good SMWS bottling. Keep it this way.
    • Nose
Dark brown sherry aromas, prunes, syrup of figs, molasses and marmite. Also found some notes from black grape, jam, cocoa powder and spices. Very complex.
    • Taste
Complex again with raisins and bouquets of black orchids? Ginger cake, licorice root, maraschino cherries, strawberry jelly, chocolate sauce .
    • Finish
Lovely intense, Long warm and complex. It comes all  together, very good one. Dark and lovely.

This might be too much sherry for some, and I usually prefer a more subtle approach too, but this is simply too good. Wonderful stuff!
    • Nose
Lots of really dark sherry notes. I don't often comment on the colour of a whisky, but this rivals the darkness of a Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask. Prunes, figs and plums. Quite savoury also. Some varnish, as well as leather and tobacco. A little bit of burnt rubber, but I like it.
    • Taste
Rich and nutty with lots of licorice, leather and raisins. Can't help but compare this to the several Kavalan Solist Sherry Cask's I've tried. This is much better balanced. Cherries and treacle as well, with a hint of sulphur adding a little more depth, making it of added value in this case.
    • Finish
Lots of spices (cloves and nutmeg). Ending on a sweet, dark red fruits. Loooong!

    Tasted with Aby and JJ.

    Sample from Trompjes
    • Nose
Raisins, some polish, fruity, leather and tobacco.
    • Taste
Liquorice, leather and honey. Orange, woody, syrup and nuts.
    • Finish
      Sweet wih syrup and orange.

  5. ARDBERG did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

    SMWS note:
The nose held dark, brooding sherry aromas – prunes, syrup of figs,

molasses and marmite – also some lighter impressions (plums, black

grapes, damson jam, cocoa powder and spices). Some of us imagined a

motor museum, others an artist’s studio. After reduction, we got sacks of

raisins and bouquets of black orchids and tulips. The neat flavour was

supremely intense – treacle, cinder toffee, ginger cake, liquorice root,

maraschino cherries, strawberry jelly cubes and chocolate sauce. With

water, despite a faint hint of old-fashioned telephone flex, this was an

immensely tasty Pandora’s box of a dram – dark, but full of secret pleasures.
