Quite drinkable and pleasant whisky, but its main value is still in the history of its production.

The nose is the best part here.
    • Nose
Sweet and quite rounded with vanilla, white sugar, peach, apple and pineapple.
    • Taste
The fruitiness is there too but it also gets spicy, pepper, cinnamon, the age shines through. A hint of cardboard.
    • Finish
      Short, spirity and spicy.

Comments and Tasting Notes by BenRiach

The BenRiach 10th Anniversary bottling is a strictly limited one-off bottling to commemorate a very special occasion.

Back in 2004, Billy Walker and his two South African partners Geoff Bell and Wayne Kieswetter purchased BenRiach and turned it into one of Scotland’s most admired distilleries.

On September 20 that year, the first distillation under the new owners was filled to cask. Ten years on, Billy Walker has married together four outstanding casks from the first week of production to create this limited bottling, at 46% vol, with only 1106 bottles available for sale.

The four bourbon barrels - 7257, 7258, 7259 and 7260 -, distilled on September 21, 2004, are the perfect choice to celebrate BenRiach’s tenth birthday.

Ripe white pear, fruit salad syrup and rich clotted cream hold a crisp twist of candied peel and soft vanilla.

    Gleaming rich harvest gold.

Crisp barley with peppery toasted oak and stem ginger flood over rich crème brulee, coconut butter and vanilla poached pear.

  9. Hemdl scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

For 10 years surprisingly balanced and pleasant. No miss notes and alcoholic sharpness, but at the same time not watery or bland. Simple but at the same time very pleasant. No comparison to the normal 10er BenRiach, which I do not like at all.
    • Nose
Vanilla, vanilla and more vanilla. There were definitely strong bourbon barrels at work. Behind bright pears and very light floral notes. That's basically it. Not very complex and varied, but pleasant. A no-frills bottling from a bourbon barrel.
    • Taste
Oily and surprisingly strong in the mouth, here again show the white pears, accompanied by strong vanilla. A little spicy pepper and light oak spice round off the whole thing. Again, no explosion of various flavors and impressions, but very round and pleasant.
    • Finish
In the finish then a slight sharpness, but not the alcohol, but rather owed to the pepper. Add to that a flattering spiciness that leaves the mouth slightly dry.
