scbp-5531, is the smell of old wine, the taste of old wine, the end rhyme of old wine, you say it is a 50s blend, I believe it, I don’t know whether it is the state of the wine or the wine should be like this, but I Prefer the latter more. As a digression, the taste of this old orange water wine is often seen in a lowland winery. Pure old wine is actually meaningless, more or less there must be some characteristics in it, this is where the fun of drinking old wine lies.
    • Nose
      90 90
The smell of stale wine, peroxidized orange juice, old books, candied pineapple, vanilla cream, bonito flakes, raw berries, in addition to some sea salt, some black pepper, and a touch of mint syrup and alcohol. To be honest, there is not much to write about, just the taste of old wine.
    • Taste
      84 84
The entrance has a high sweetness, typical fruit juice taste, cooked sweet orange juice, which contains some fennel and black pepper spice, raw nut sauce, and caramel with the aroma of old leather and vanilla, sweet to overflowing, this time we The taste of fried peanuts with a little bit of chewing can be noticed as a transition. The sweetness of the front is the bitterness of the back, and the breath of pure dark chocolate and white pepper closely follows. The wine has medium body thickness, full fatness in the entrance, bitter end flavor, slightly unbalanced, and the overall flavor profile is flat and simple.
    • Finish
      82 82
Covered by the bitterness of chocolate and some woody tannins, the staleness of the old wine resurfaced, in addition to a little orange juice.

We still don’t know whether the low-grade old bottles we looked at that day were not so powerful or were not stored well, and their condition has declined. Based on today’s one, it definitely loses the new version of the green label 15 year. The overall style of this wine is a bit dirty, but the most important thing is the very obvious large grains of salt. At the same time, one or two Wood Expressions are really salty and unacceptable, and 15yo is the core product line, and the bartenders can't help it. It's OK.
    • Nose
I suddenly recalled the first few versions of 12yo Cask Strength. The rubber tires covered with black engine oil are embedded with coarse salt and coriander. It is reversed from the production time. It should be the distillation when the production was just resumed. At that time, Yunding's The inventory of Shirley barrels is not as stretched as it is today. Salty oil, frozen tilapia, freshly maintained old leather goods, sulphur powder, tar, peat is not heavy but dirty enough, and the aroma of coconut milk and chestnut is covered. The suppression is very low. As for the iconic fresh citrus and minerals produced by the winery at this stage, it should be difficult to find.
If whisky can be made in this way, 46% abv is not unacceptable. As for the current Samaroli-style reduction, it is better to stay cool there.
    • Taste
The Shirley flavor is lighter than expected. It is either mixed bourbon or refilled bucket/Fino bucket. But the good thing is that Genting’s orange juice is back. The indifferent peat is a bit disappointing. Burning paper The water, the side of the matchbox, and the shredded tobacco are after all a 20-year-old bottle. It is understandable. The style is a little depressed and frustrated. Some are not like the young wine of 15 years. The balance is Dota style. The first half is slightly lighter The sweet and sour fruit (similar to the fruity taste in fino), with some salt and pepper ginkgo, pepper behind
The flavor is not strong, I can only say that it is balanced. I miss the barrel strength again.

Normal, the fat is fair, the sweetness is average, slightly sour, no astringency, a bit of bitterness, no spicy, no alcohol.
    • Finish
Changjiu, sea salt, rubber, dried sherry, stove ash, cheese, wood board, crushed spices.

Very nice nose, the taste is floral, apples, bourbon notes, a bit of salt, nice but ... it's nothing special for me. easy to drink whole bottle

Heavy and dirty at 46%. I cannot conclude this dram as a "pleasant daily dram", but it is still worth the point.

Soft peat, dried apples, prunes, cocoa powder, milk chocolate, fried nuts. Dried apricots. A little fresh wood. Sweet pastries. After standing, add a little noticeable sea motifs. 22
    • Taste
      86 86
Medium, moderately dry. Apple bone, a little salt, sourness, smoke. There is something like dry sherry - Fino, or rather Manzanilla. 21
    • Finish
      89 89
Long. Delicate smoke, bread crumb, mineral motifs. A little match-head. 22

Good, balanced, very high quality whisky. Balance sheet - 22.

A pleasantly strong malt from Campbeltown. The proverbial "dirty Springer note" is well traceable, although the flavor profile a whole corner "softer" and "round" acts as in Springbank 10th
    • Nose
Nice strong with sherry, marjoram, thyme and some match sulfur. Later, a delicate bourbon fruit joins with a light mint fresh note.
    • Taste
The Springbank comes nicely tingling, slightly sulphurous and then in an interplay of sherry, darker fruit and light vanilla notes in the mouth. It greets the damp forest floor.
    • Finish
In the end, the Springbank remains beautifully spicy-gunpowder, herbs and a little oak finish the medium-long finish.

Springbank 15 old vs. New Colour:

    Both identical bright amber

    Nose:

The new 15 is very red-fruity sherry-heavy and somewhat exotic, wonderfully greasy smoke with beautiful sharpness, spicy herbs, savory sweetness, some medical notes at the very back.
The old 15 comes significantly milder in the nose, there are no peppery notes of smoke, here comes through the fruity-sweet Bourbon, much pear, ripe apple, some rancid olive oil, soft water to honey.

The new is clearly jagged in the nose, the old something is missing here the oomph, but he presents himself more complaisant, round ... where the new already neatly demands to dissect the flavors.

    Taste:

The old comes beautifully sweet-oily in the mouth, light pepper notes on the edges of the tongue, then creamy pear, slowly slide into the bitterness, pelle of half-ripe mirabelle, strong espresso, no, Greek mocha.
The new is almost sweeter on the tongue, again red fruit, sour cherry, currant, Acai, to the smoked bacon glazed with honey, pepper only in the back of the cheeks, a hint of bitter choco.

The old man is almost too harmless, soft and sweet. The new shows itself from the best Springer side: greasy peat, juicy fruit in great harmony.

    finish:

The old man is very bitter, a lot of men's chocolate, a little sweet, medium long.
The new is sweet and fruity with coffee notes, medium long.

    Conclusion:

The old 15er is not a bad whisky, but here Springbank has saved on the peat of the malt, he just has too little Pepp. The new is a flatterer with neat corners and edges. Lots of fruit and sweetness through the sherry portion, to the smoked bacon.

    Age 15's: 82 pts.
    New 15er: 85 pts.

Nose and palate are OK but the finish is really strange - I don't like it actually. I compared directly to a Springbank 15yo from the 70ies with a black label and it was much better.
    • Nose
Vanilla, ripe bananas, little smoke and leather, toffee
    • Taste
Pretty oily and waxy, smooth, some citrusy notes, little smoky and leathery
    • Finish
Rather short - as of a sudden it's flat, moldy and gone

Apricot, leather, peat, toffee and pepper.
    • Finish
      Peat, apricot, mango and leather.

    • Nose
Sophisticated. Dundee cake, vanilla, new leather. Pipe tobacco, dried apricot, peat, tea.
    • Taste
European oak is there, but not dominating. Sweet tobacco, nuts, smoke in the background. Complex.
    • Finish
Full and rich.Mouth coating. Soot, malt.

    • Nose
A mixture of wood, chocolate, dense fruit and a little menthol, perhaps with resin, cones and moments, I think it is whipped whisky. Walnuts for this. (86 b)
    • Taste
Hmmm .... unexpectedly intense, strong sherry style, she reminded me of Glenfarclas 15y, but it is still and much better. On the tongue, a sultry sour taste, a lot of milk chocolate, with honey unfolds. The flavor then tends to dry sherry style.
Full sherry orgy, splendor. (92 b)

    • Nose
Orange slices in marsala wine. Some menthol coming through after a few minutes in the glass. Chocolate coated shortbread. A whiff of smoke? Not sure.
A drop of water turns it quite musty
    • Taste
Coastal with more sherry than in the nose - but nicely balanced. Quite hot and a little oily. Fruity too though I haven't decided what fruit - maybe it's the oranges from the nose? Yes I think it is.
    • Finish
Salty. Drying. Quite long and those oranges are there again, this time with honey.

I enjoy this single malt. This 15yr has many attributes of sherry based Scotch that many of its counter parts have and more. I also like the 10yr it is awesome. Good for the price and also for the flavor. One of my favorites to drink any time. Enjoy
