Whisky Reviews for Royal Salute 21-year-old

The Royal Salute wields a fine blade. It is elegantly discreet, but releases its aromas over time and becomes interesting again due to the late smoky note. Who looks strong, salient features, should rather be disappointed, but the whiskey is in my opinion quite delicious and good drinkable.
    • Nose
Initially light fruits, followed by toasted bread, chocolate and vanilla. After a long time in the glass unfolds a fine smoke.
    • Taste
He starts soft and sweet. The slight smokiness can be found just like the bright fruits. The alcohol starts decently, but then builds up in the course of some strength.
    • Finish
In the medium long finish you will find pear and very slight oak bitterness.

Nose: Cedar wood, oak cabinet, caramel, soapy sweetness with orange flavor, lemon zest, cereal, the grain is already evident with its sweetness, cereals and bitter oak to taste. Nice old thing but the grain is a bit too loud for my taste in the aroma picture.
Taste: soft onset, light floral sweetness, then comes tingling slightly peppery oak, a lot of bitterness in the finish even increases. Slightly thickened orange juice and tobacco but in the long finish remains mainly only bitter oak. Yes, you will notice the barrels used several times. Lots of wood and bitterness - in itself not necessarily something bad but nothing for every day and too few other "good" flavors for this price range. Conclusion: A good blend but just overpriced. Since you are better off in JW in the price range.

Interesting, complex and tasty nose, weak palate. 77 points.
    • Nose
Sweet at the beginning with a clear caramel. Add to that a delicate oak wood note. Milk chocolate with lemon abrasion. Creamy, soft but not flat. Some fried almonds and brittle come along and chocolate oak gets stronger.
    • Taste
Soft, subtle oak and slight sweetness. A trace bitter. Tobacco in the dessert. The second sip has something metallic.
    • Finish
Amazingly long for such a soft whiskey. Tobacco and subtle bitterness form the conclusion.

Oops: is this a Glenfarclas 21 or a Balvenie 16? Butterscotch, marzipan, unroasted peanuts ... Smells oily and creamy

Taste: Oily & creamy as expected with
Butterscotch, toffee, Werther's real, unroasted peanuts and marzipan that you can almost chew and a bit of oak Made in USA
+ a little bit of lemon zest

The aromas are preserved without the lemon residue. Here comes the biggest difference to the Glenfarclas and Balvenie 16 mentioned above. You can tell that it is not a single painting!

Conclusion: I would not reject this dram but I can not order one ...

84Points (purely price performance rather 81P)

  6. John Barleycorn scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Rich and fruity with a sweet floral note, dry with a hint of oak and subtle smoke.
    • Taste
Deep rich fruity flavours, hints of orange marmalade with hazelnuts, spices and a touch od smoke
    • Finish
A long lingering dry finish with a rich sherry note
