Whisky Reviews for Glendalough 13-year-old

A “sourced” whiskey from another (undisclosed) Irish distillery. A fresh, “Irish”, fruity dram with herbal aspects, with quite a bit more oomph than expected from the usually very light Irish distillates.

A good sipping whiskey with a complex enough character to enjoy every time. Nice and fresh! I would definitely recommend adding a few drops of water to increase the overall experience.
    • Nose
Chemical: car wax. Waxy pear, sweet, fresh, ripe mango, gentle spiciness from alcohol.

With water: Floral, minty, sherbety citrus, vanilla, wood spice emerges.
    • Taste
Oily, dense, hot (ginger), hint of pepper, gentle vanilla, spicy, bitter oakiness.

Does not improve dramtically with water, but a lot of dark chocolate appears. The oiliness, on the other hand, reduces.
    • Finish
Somewhat short finish. Lingering waxy pepperiness.

With water: Leaves a lasting spicy dark chocolate. And minty, too! Very nice.

For some reason that I no longer knew, I originally had some reservations about this drop (Had I tasted the younger brother? Was it a bad day for the drop at the first degustation?) Anyway, I find this 13-year-old very successful and recommendable Of course, the whole thing is not infinitely subtle, but I can discover no mistakes in this drop> What more is needed for a successful enjoyment?
    • Nose
Fruits en masse (pineapple, apples, apricots etc.); rounded off by the finest malt and vanilla; What more is needed for a successful drop?
    • Taste
The fruit basket is made even more enjoyable and interesting by the finest spices (including clear cinnamon).
    • Finish
And the finish is now disturbed by really no discord.

Much more to my liking than the younger version, but also half more expensive. Around 70 EUR.
    • Nose
The nose is more fresh than that of the 7 Year Old. Lemongrass, pineapple, pear drops and a hint of nuts. It even has a bit of… sweat… no kidding. Mildly burnt sugar keeps it sweet. Honey and loads of barley. Meringue with lime! Guava! Very good, in fact.
    • Taste
It starts off quite fruity on the palate on banana, guava and citrus, but soon some drying cedar wood and green tea kicks in. Some nuts, but not very outspoken. Melon too. Cinnamon. Goes from creamy to somewhat astringent, but never of the top.
    • Finish
I get quite the herbal touch in the medium long finish, upholstered with some banana before it dies a mildly bitter death.

    • Taste
Banana, pear, apple peel, mango, lemon, peach, pineapple, mandarin, grass, sugared almonds and muesli.
    • Finish
Medium-long, vanilla, apple peel, lemon, liquorice, barley, banana, peach, sugared almonds.

Fresh on the fruits and some wood chips. In the mouth, very fluid. Perfect alcoholic integration, it does not make its 46%. Exotic fruits at the end of the mouth and in the finish. Beautiful bill.

    Enthusiasm 3/5
