Ledaig 10 yo 2004 (51,6%, Liquid Art ‘Pink Salmon’ 2014, 176 btl.)Nose: somehow the peat is quite warm here, more so than in other Ledaigs, and despite the young age. Tar and charcoal, mixed with a bit of vanilla and lemonade sweetness. Maybe tinned peaches or pineapple in the back. Very light coastal notes, along with some mentholated hints, but it’s mostly the roundness that’s remarkable here. Mouth: slightly more fierce now, with a hot peaty kick. A little more olive brine as well. Then it returns to sweet soot, with a light syrupy, fruity undertone again. Nice. Sweetened lapsang tea. Finish: long, more towards kippery and herbal notes now, but always with this lingering sweetness.Nice how this one mixes the deep peaty notes with a balancing sweetness. I don’t like roughly peated whisky so this is one of the nicest Ledaigs I’ve come across so far. Launched today, available from Liquid Art.Score: 87/100

    • Nose
Smoke, ash, peat, wax, lemon. Dry aromatic spices. Austere.
    • Taste
Alcohol is a hair too dominant. The lemon clearly present. The mouth is racy and explosive. The development a bit short. This one seems to me less complex and multi-effects than the version of Maltbarn.
    • Finish
Dry and malty finish. The smoke and the ash are more discreet.

I am not a very good Ledaig customer, I often find peat too present and go inside. Not that here, it is fine and subtle. This Ledaig is older, wiser than his 10 years; and is clearly the best I've been able to taste so far. A very good selection of this young bottler.
    • Nose
Unlike other Ledaig that I could taste, peat here is not aggressive at all. It is more lemony than farmhouse, fine and pleasant. There is of course also dry smoke, as well as applesauce and pear. Varnish develops after aeration. A very good nose, finely peated.
    • Taste
Whisky carpets the mouth and teeth. Heather, dry hay, vanilla, peach syrup. A sweet and fine mouth, not aggressive at all.
    • Finish
Pretty short. The dry smoke rises in the nostrils. A sprig of vanilla pear.
