That´s what I call a dirty cask. I really adore these kind of whiskys. Not that complex, not a lot of depth. But very interisting for such sherry bomb lovers like me.
    • Nose
Quite a lot of fresh wood and superglue, reminds me of some well aged bourbon. Then fresh, sulphury sherry. Sour gummibears. Carried by quite some strong alcohol. Behind that salty, spicy oak. Adorable!
    • Taste
Young and feisty from the start. Heavy sherry influence, overdominant. Again sourish with lots of sulphur. The tongue needs time to get used to the high abv. However this whisky obviously depends on its high abv since it totally loses it charcater by diluting it.
    • Finish
Not that long. Mostly the heavy sherry influence again. Ending with a numb, leathery mouth feeling.

The sherry barrel has left distinct reds, the malt shimmers reddish brown and shiny. Light oily threads run down the glass as I briefly swirl the malt. Let's see what's in the nose: at the first moment I have some alcohol, so I have to go there again a round gentler. Right now I can smell figs that simmer in a pan in red wine, the red wine is reduced, the figs are darkened with dark liquid chocolate and then served with vanilla (ice cream). On the left, unfortunately, I still only perceive alcohol. I have a lot of sweetness, a little bit of the Akkohol on - but that is the young wild. Not adjusted, rather striking. The fig is more likely to be red plum. Then there is some peppery, almost tender chillinote. (hot plum could also be spotted
try, sour cherry with chili tastes awesome). Then and then a little Schoki, but it is not that dark. AUch here, as with the young and very controversial Arran, I have something leathery again. Not unpleasant. And something, what
reminds me of the phrase of Turkish coffee. What should I say, I like him a lot. Even if it does not last forever and is not super deep, still a treat.

  8. St. Pauli scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
PX, a pleasant amount of sulphur (burnt matches), flint stones, salty toffee, prunes, figs, christmas pudding, walnut, leather and red fruits.
    • Taste
Sweet, salty, a tad sour (pleasant), perfect balance. PX sherry fruits (raisins, prunes), red fruits, leather, gun powder, honey, pepper.
    • Finish
Long and lingering, on soft spices and dried fruits, honeyed barley.

This one has a very nice (but forceful) sherry coat offset by a gentle salinity, which, I assume, comes from the spirit. Excellent vigour and body, but it lacks the complexity required to earn a higher grade. Still - if you see this in a shop near you, buy it. A vibrant sherried islander.
