N: immediately very open and expressive: marshmallows and persistent notes of a 'sweetness' that, if we did not know that there is bourbon involved, we would almost say Pedro Ximenez (almonds and marzipan, in quantity). A very sugary nose (ripe white grapes is candied); vanilla pudding, then milk chocolate ... even condensed milk! A few notes of red fruit crouched on the bottom. Very fresh, but also very intense and round. P: start by evaluating the good body. Then, it's like the nose: very sweet and 'Christmas', with more cane sugar and red apple. It increases the share of red fruits, but for the rest they break the almonds, the vanilla pudding, the marshmallows ... Also cinnamon, and an intense caramel. Very pleasant, despite being so sweet and sugary it avoids being cloying and remains very drinkable. F: not very long; sugary, fruity and with notes of dried fruit (hazelnut?). Well, a few words will suffice to draw conclusions: it costs less than 40 euros, and it is good, very good. The interaction between bourbon and sherry (between American and European oak, uff, you are pignoli eh) is perfect: dominates the second but also the first one knows how to cut out an important space. Varied and intense, much better than the average of similar range bottling, ie young speysiders; so much so that one wonders: why the other distilleries are not able to release such good whisky at this age? Boh. As we question ourselves on this point, we read - as usual - the reviews of Serge and Ruben . http://whiskyfacile.com/2013/04/08/glendronach-8-yo-octarine-2012-ob-46/

85/86. Definitely a good whisky for its age. Mainly oloroso sherry casks I believe.
    • Nose
Cherry, raisin, orange, cranberry, butterscotch and caster sugar.
    • Taste
Toffee, cherry, dark chocolate, roasted barley, cranberry, hazelnut paste, almond, orange and a little marshmallow. When it breathes: more hazelnut.
    • Finish
Dark chocolate, toffee, dark cherry, roasted barley, bastogne, caster sugar and in the tail some plum.

A very nice dram indeed, in my opinion better then the standard 12 year old bottling, but less then the 15 year old revival. The rating on price based specifically on the initial price of around 29 euro's, which I paid for it. Not for the ridiculous prices they are going for right now.
