Great spring bench with a fine balance between the smoke and the maritime note on one side and this exotic fruity sweet note on the other. Varied and delicious.
    • Nose
      88 88
Nice, fine start with fruity, slightly sweet notes of oranges, lemons, bananas. some smoke with slightly salty sea air. A tart currant note is mixed with this. Occasionally notes of exotic fruits such as mango, pineapple, peach. Everything fits together well and appears harmonious and coherent.
    • Taste
      88 88
Powerful, spicy, almost chili-hot onset, behind it sweet exotic fruit notes with a slight smoke content. Salt, liquorice, nuts, will become milder, softer after a while. There are also subtle vanilla and karaamel notes. Good balance between the smoke and the fruity, sweet note.
Alcohol is well integrated, but already strongly presses on the spicy, sharp note.
A few drops of water make it mild and soft. Very pleasant malt.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium-long finish, sweet malt, slightly salty, oak, the spiciness remains a little longer. Nice ending ...

forget the price rating, meanwhile far too expensive
forget the presentation rating as we all know that springbank´s marketing is wonderfully unprofessional and the labels are a pure horror.
I just do not want to spoil the averige rating as I´m not that much interested in labels although I can enjoy a good one.

again a very good expression of springbank, the bourbon cask worked fine on this whisky.
    91/100
    • Nose
you can tell from the first nosing that this is very good (as always). nice fruity aromas on gooseberries, lemon curd and orange peel combined with obvious but still rather gentle smoke and the obligatory ashes. no soot this time.
it is less dirty than many other expressions.
after a while I got whiffs of something sour/tropical.
    • Taste
with water: well, it´s springbank! what did I expect?
I´m afraid  I repeat myself in my reviews of springbank.
But I can say that this is a rather clean and more distinguished expression, less dirty and really nicely fruity with some malty aspects in the background, some barley notes.
a noticeable difference to sherry or "mixed" maturation.
    • Finish
      long, very clean

medium-long, floral, orange oil, marzipan, orange peel and marmalade at the back followed by tangy orange oil, minerals and light creamy grass

"The Local Barley 11 on Crack" Yes that's it. Very nice jump bench.
    • Nose
A whole barley field splashes in my face, malty sweet, honey, light smoke, the Springbank saltiness pushes over, sweet cookies, orange juice
    • Taste
Malty and creamy sweetness, again light smoke and the alcohol pushes along with the saltiness, orange
    • Finish
Strong Springbank-typical finish, some oak, the sweet malt reigns here

A rather usual Springbank profile, but as nearly always, a great whisky. It's just too easy to be spoiled by this distillery.
    • Nose
Wow, this is complex! Sea breeze, wet stones, heavy coastal notes, then some pepper, white sugar, lemon juice, developing into gooseberry, peach, honey, a slightly tropical side on mango and papaya, and a hint of smoke.
    • Taste
Quite a heavy spice attack with pepper and chilli. Layers of sweetness underneath with mango, papaya and passion fruit dominating, also lemons and some salt. Peat smoke is there too.
    • Finish
Long, powerful, the fruity sweetness slowly subsides to the burning chilli and pepper.

    Springbank 18 yo 1996
(58,7%, OB for The Nectar 2014, refill bourbon, single cask, 210 btl.)

Nose: starts with the typical dusty, grainy Springbank note, alongside coastal notes. Vague oily notes (wax candle). A little pepper and mint. Grated coconut. Walnut husks. Over time it becomes clearly fruitier, with lots of gooseberries and rhubarb, strawberries and the lightest tropical touch of papaya. A smoky side as well, not exactly peat smoke but more like toasted oak. Mouth: big and spicy, again quite oily and waxy with lots of briny notes. In a second wave, there are beautiful fruits – bright, lightly tropical again, say sweet oranges, mango and pineapple. Almonds. Green tea. Dusty, earthy smoke. Finish: rather long, on zesty notes, oak spices and that faint smoky edge.

The oily fruitiness works very well with the maritime character and the smoky notes in this Springbank 18. As I said before, an exquisite version of an already really good dram. Now that I think of it, it’s totally in line with last year’s 14 Year Old as well. Around € 140.

    Score: 91/100

    Blind tasted for thewhiskyforum.nl.
    • Nose
First sweet, then the smell of wood.
    • Taste
Reasonably sweet, vanilla and banana. Then citrus and wood. Perfect in balance!
    • Finish
The sweetness and taste of the wood will remain pleasantly long.

The pepper is a bit overpowering on the palate, but the nose is excellent. I actually quite like this, although not as much as some people do. But keep in mind that this is the highest I've ever rated a Springbank.
    • Nose
Waxy and grainy with a hint of peat smoke. Also some porridge (which confirms the grainy part for me) and minerals/wet rocks. Then a more fruity aspect with lemon, but also vanilla and some brown sugar. Fun nose, pretty complex.
    • Taste
More smoke and vegetal peat with pepper. Also lemon, but now with grapefruit in the mix as well. Lots of ex-bourbon fruit notes.
    • Finish
More pepper, grains and a slight bitterness.

Blindly tasted HWF VBT6 sample 6 In this sample the turbine influences not picked up, which were observed by others.
    • Nose
Copper, sweet as in peach candies. Ripe fruit, pear, peach, sweet apple. Caramel, vanilla custard.
    • Taste
Wow, sweet, full. Double fresh with a kick! The fruit comes back, peach, apple, caramelised pear. Raisins, white grape. Even sweeter with water.
    • Finish
Long, sweet, lots of wood influence. Later what salty.

Not bad, not bad at all. This is about the whisky genre that comes closest to my current preference (except for the Bowmore). There are a few things I have to think about: Clynelish, Brora and Campbelltown (Springbank). There are elements, especially in the nose, that remind me very strongly of certain versions of Clynelish. I mean that smell of farm. Some Brora's also have that. Those minerals and soft peat remind me of a Springbank. I'll keep it on that last one. ABV? I estimate something of 52%.
With a whisky in my glass I would really enjoy an evening.
    • Nose
Sounds familiar. As if I still smelled this, or something similar. Here we go: something 'farmy' (as it is so beautifully described), light peat, a bit of minerals, very slightly fruity (like melon).
With 2 drops of water: Pfoeh, you can not get much more farm than this, I think, green apples, some sweeter fruit (unripe bananas).
With 2 drops of water: Pfoeh, you can not get much more farm than this, I think, green apples, some sweeter fruit (unripe bananas).
    • Taste
Light peat weather, minerals, slightly greasy.
With 2 drops of water: everything gets just that little bit sweeter, more peat, more ... (yes, everything more). Even the pepper on the tongue becomes softer. After about 10 minutes of breathing and a slightly larger sip, I get an overwhelming feeling. Something about 'Pfoeh, jawadde, AMAI'.
    • Finish
This continues as in the nose and taste. With water it is noticeably longer than without it.

Blind sample in HWF VBT 6. Every time I taste it I discover more and like it more.
    • Nose
Peach, mango, toffee, flowers, vanilla, almond, peat, honey, malt, wax and fig. Eventually hazelnut, cooky, tobacco and apple. With water some marzipan, banana, grass and... salty crisps? Very complex.
    • Taste
More peat, pretty ashy. Mango, honey, apricot, beeswax, pepper, almond, dark chocolate, vanilla and a little coffee.
    • Finish
Peat, mango, honey, almond and dark chocolate.
