Gold Medal Best in Class winner at the 2007 International Spirits Challenge.
The Glenfiddich Solera system is unique among Scotch whisky distillers. The fifteen-year-old Glenfiddich from three types of casks (traditional American bourbon, Portuguese sherry and new oak) is married in a large Solera cask made from Oregon pine. The keg is always at least half full, ensuring a consistent quality of whisky is maintained when refilled. This beautifully balanced single malt is then allowed to settle in a small Solera tun before being bottled. The result? A full and fruity nose, with delicate notes of honey and vanilla. The taste is elegantly smooth, with a deep flavor that reveals fruit, soft spices and a hint of oak. The finish is long and satisfying.
    The color is gold.
    • Nose
In the nose, the whisky has notes of chocolate and peaty with honey and vanilla.
    • Taste
The taste is oily, nice deep, warm aromas and fruity (pears), spicy and light shades of chocolate with a recurring warm spicy aftertaste.
    • Finish
The aftertaste lasts long and is floral in character.

Compared to the 12-year-old, the 15-year-old offers a significant increase, especially in the nose. Despite the "low" alcohol content, the first impression is intense and interesting. The aroma is a bit sweeter than its little brother. In the mouth, however, I would have liked a little more complexity, here the 40% vol. are noticeable. Despite the nice interplay of oak and sweetness in the finish, I'm missing the last kick when trying it.

    https://www.aboutwhisky.de/tastingnotes/glenfiddich-15-years/
    • Nose
For its comparatively low alcohol content of only 40% vol., the nose is surprisingly intense. From the feeling it could just as well have been 46% vol. At first he is still a little reserved and only slowly lets his secrets be elicited. The aroma is very sweet with honey, vanilla, ripe red apples, pears and canned fruit salad. Despite the dominant sweetness, I also find a slightly sour note and a slight maltiness. The spiciness of the oak can already be perceived at the first smell and becomes even more intense after the first taste. Nevertheless, the sweet and fruity aromas still dominate the nose after a few minutes.
    • Taste
In the mouth it is significantly softer and less intense than in the nose. Here I would have guessed 40% alcohol by volume. The mouthfeel is also very sweet (honey) and characterized by the fruits mentioned above. After a few seconds, the oak asserts itself a little more.
    • Finish
Slight bitterness from the oak that reminds me of dark chocolate. The finish is medium long, the sweetness lingers along with the slightly bitter oak notes to the end.

On the nose, sweet apples with honey and a hint of marzipan. Compared to the 12 rounder and sweeter and less fresh. However, similarly mild and reserved.

In the mouth it is sweeter but unfortunately just as watery as the 12.

In the finish, unfortunately, still no taste explosion, but at least fruity-sweet notes of pear and grapes and a hint of oak.

    Grade: 2-

Nose: despite only 40% strong in the nose, fresh sherry fruit with vanilla, light sweetness, not too strong wood flavor, a nice nose, for a supermarket whisky surprisingly good.

Taste: fruity and sweet, very gentle and gentle on the palate, tasty, spicy leaves behind. Get out of the back a bit drier.

Finish: short to medium, the longest remains a little dry spiciness.

considering the price, nothing to complain about!

seeing his benefits, it's very skinny!
    • Nose
spices, malt, some glue, then various fruits of apricot, apple and orange
    • Taste
sweetness on the fruits, a little pepper, butter spring, very fine sensations.
2nd: more scents than the HP, more copper, more fruity, more malty, to rediscover!
    • Finish
      short!!

a little pepper and herbs, but it's simple

I must say I have the feeling the 40% work well on this whisky.
it´s everything but thin in my opinion and very drinkable.
if your looking for a complex dram leave it on the shelf!
    87/100
    • Nose
compared to the 12 year old this is more complex and it has got more wood influence. rather fruity with a good amount of sherry fruit and some oranges.
it´s also oakier than the 12yo with a winey touch. good balance.
    • Taste
creamy start with a basket of  fruits. apples, pears and oranges.
ginger and quite some oak but not unpleasant at all. becoming much drier after 30 seconds or so.
    • Finish
quite long, a tad bitter in the very end

  29. uap304 scored this whisky 85 points Expert Senior

Dark and heavy. It seems mostly hot and unfulfilling to begin with, but it gains depth after several minutes in the glass, and overall was so much improved as the bottle accrued more time and oxidation. Very interesting!
    • Nose
Initially spirity and rather non-descript. No prominent sherry. With time, it opens up a bit, giving faint cherries and the classic Glenfiddich pears.
    • Taste
Smooth and syrupy. Hints of sherry and dark fruit. Then grass, fizzy heat, a full spoonful of sugar, cherry, malt, crackers, and turning softly spicy. Whoa!
    • Finish
Initially short, then becoming more lingering with time in the glass and in the bottle. Cinnamon heat, turning into a sweet grape or cognac type of thing. Then becoming sour, with coffee and cherry cordial notes.

Not a patch on 10 years ago (Solera) and my initial score would have been 75 points but it improved with air which brought it up to 80 points.
    • Nose
Smells of apples and lemon mixed in with a little honey and old style lemonade with white marshmallow.
    • Taste
Too thin on the palate for me but pleasant enough although thee are some sawdust notes. Initially there are a few bitter notes but then there is some fresh pineapple and with time it improves.

    • Nose
Rich, fruity and very soft on the nose with lots of delicate sweet honey
and lingering vanilla fudge. There's subtle oak in the back with gentle
sherry, dark fruits, hints of plums and raisins, baked apples and
      chocolate. Very pleasant.
    • Taste
Rich and creamy, even silky on the palate with delicious honey, stewed
black fruit, lingering vanilla cream and gentle sherry. Soft oak spice,
cinnamon and a bit of marzipan arrive along with a whiff of smoke and a
      subtle peppery note. Very delicate.
    • Finish
Ripe and vibrant but smooth and elegant with a warm and medium length
finish. Still sweet with pleasant honey and vanilla, and gentle dry oak
      on the tail.

WITH WATER: Very creamy with big waves of honey and
vanilla. Clean and fresh on the palate along with significantly more oak
spice, gentle smoke and crisp peppery flavours. The finish is very long
and warming with lots of oak spice and subtle smoke. Very nice.

N: Blended density, honey & E150a heavy, sweet and woody
T: Full mouthful but not much of a story. Generally sweet and woody with a silky, flat-liner development. White pepper, hints of thin hot chocolate with a BIG caramel influence make this a sugary, cloying experience
F: Sugar turns to a drying sawdust

A very well balanced, well executed whisky. An absolute bargain. A sweet honey nose, which can't hide the sherry influence. Although a lot of exbourbon in the taste, it just goed so well with the mellow glenfiddich signature. No faults in the aftertaste. If this were bottled at higher strength it would be an absolute winner.

    • Nose
At first, the lightly fruity pear reminds me of the 12er but then comes the honey, some raisins and sherry, a cup of warm cocoa, viell. Still a little blooming summer meadow, well balanced
    • Taste
sweet, honey, dark fruit / sweet cherry, cocoa

Sweet pears and green apples greet the nose. Bluetenhonig and some oak lift him from the 12yo and give depth to the 15yo. Some sherry, dark fruit and a hint of caramel and vanilla round off the nose.

Oily and sweet the whisky flatters the palate. Pear and honey give way to the comparatively strong oak. Caramel again.

Lots of gentle fruits from the beginning. Apricots, ripe pears and some banana as well. Also some strong ex-bourbon--barrel aromas. Vanilla, caramel and quite some oak. Not a hint of peat.
    • Taste
Wonderfully smooth. Sweet and creamy. Very sweet. The the oak becomes more dominant and there´s quite some spiciness.
    • Finish
Medium-long finish, staying sweet. Maybe a little dry and some bitterness.

Colour: light yellowNose: the beginning is sweetyish and than I smell very clear apricots, sherry, banana, malt, caramel and toffee> very promising!Taste: Well, that`s a hit: the first thing I discover is a greasy taste, very greasy and very tasty, the sweetness of the nose is nice, malty and also very tasty. This fatty malt flavor dominates all (but I have no problems with it!).At the end a tiny little bittery taste!Finish: This whisky has a very long aftertaste!

A soft and creamy whisky with floral and spicy palate

surrounded by intriguing flavors. A whisky that for 15

years has matured in bourbon and sherry casks to Olorossy flavors and aromas to

fully develop a deep distillate is the result.

  73. granella2003 scored this whisky 69 points Connoisseur

    • Nose
Fresh aromas of flowers, honey, spices and honey with hints of cocoa and apple

    • Taste
A soft flavor of peaches, flowers, honey and wood complemented by spices, cocoa and licorice
    • Finish
Light floral aftertaste with notes of honey, cocoa and cinnamon

  74. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

N: malty, sweet, fruity - orange and banana and  tea
T: warming flavors, vanilla, sweet and creamy
F: bitter - grapefruit, spicy, orange, later honey and raisins
not too complex, less points because off the taste

Soft, mellow, great use of different types of oak, kind of fruity, semi sweet sherry cask touch to it.

The richly layered Glenfiddich 15 Year Old single malt Scotch whisky is matured in three types of oak cask: sherry, bourbon and new oak, before being married in our unique, handcrafted Solera vat. The Solera vat is never emptied but is always kept at least half full. Here, flavours are harmoniously married, creating a whisky of character and intense complexity. Glenfiddich 15 recently won Gold Medal Best in Class 2007 at the International Spirits Challenge (ISC).

Glenfiddich is often looked down upon, seen as a mass product, but the
fact of the matter is that the guys from Dufftown know how to make good whisky.
    • Nose
The nose is very sweet and inviting. Honey, vanilla and fresh fruit:
oranges, pear, green grapes. Apple compote, chocolate with raisins, sultanas.
Mild on the spices with cinnamon and ginger. Some liquorice.
    • Taste
It has a lot more body than the 12 Year Old. Vanilla, butterscotch, lime
instead of oranges, baked banana and woodspice. Even some leather. Round and
      creamy.
    • Finish
The finish is the only downside, because it is rather short. I remember
      cinnamon and honey.

A substantial bang for the buck. Highly enjoyable, complex and balanced malt. May be even better with higher alcohol strength and non-chillfiltered. By all means recommended.
    • Nose
Rich fruitiness, syrupy, sweet-scented perfumes, melon, apricot, peeled tangerine, cinnamon, caramel apple, vanilla, a distinctive bourbon note, puff pastry. Unfortunately, the most delicate flavours fade quickly.
    • Taste
Sweet arrival. Prunes, apricots again, oatmeal raisin cookies, peach, wood overtones, strong black tea. Silky texture, very soft.
    • Finish
Of a medium duration. Astringent and warm. Salted almonds, cocoa, oak wood, soaked apples, spices, overripe cherries slightly, chocolate, bitterness of lemon rind.

This is just a pleasant whisky to share with good friends, sitting in a leather chair on a cozy evening with cigars within reach.....Enjoy !
    • Nose
Malt and sweet (honey ?). Also vanilla and sweets (tum-tum). Not that heavy, just nice.
    • Taste
Tickles the nose. A hint of liquorice ansd pepper. After that: sweet like tum-tum. Also a bit oily.
    • Finish
Sweetness predominates in spite of all the other flavors.

A very decent dram. The light sweetness is nice, the fruity barley is expected. Nothing like the 18 year old, but adequate nonetheless.
    • Nose
Light, woody and quite fruity. A floral note with a clear barley influence. Quite sweet like powdered sugar or icing.
    • Taste
Malty and sweet. Real burnt sugar and vanilla. The woodiness coming through later, with a light prickle. Slight spices at the end.
    • Finish
Medium and pleasant. Sweet, fruity barley the most prominent. A bit of wood still, but I've tasted woodier Glenfiddichs.

probably a good whisky to start for beginners, but there are way better whiskys around with the same price level ;)
    • Nose
it starts with some fruits, floral, vanilla, caramel and after a while oak and maltiness are kicking in, in addition to a few hints of peat
    • Taste
floral, malt and fruits, but the flavours are pretty weak in my opinion and in the background is some sharpness through the alcohol - not very complex at all and I expected more after nosing.
    • Finish
medium, sweet and with a little ginger-sharpness

  83. drkrylov scored this whisky 81 points Connoisseur

Elegant. Well-balanced to the point of suavity.
    • Nose
Chocolate, toast and a hint of peat.
    • Taste
Smooth, silky, white chocolate. Pears-in-cream. Cardamom.
    • Finish
      Cream. Hint of ginger.

    • Nose
Less obvious wood on the nose here than there is on the 18yo. Back to
the stewed fruits, still with some vanilla notes but not as overt.
    • Taste
The wood leaps out on trhe palate though. Very spicy, with the cedary notes to the fore.
    • Finish
Again with the nice mouthwatering finish. Like juicy pencils. I must be drunk.

    • Nose
      orange and oak. spicy.
    • Taste
spicy, oaky and honey. Some of that orange is still here
    • Finish
Not as long as the 15 CS. Sweet and malty with a ouch of bitter dryness

  87. hsmithjr scored this whisky 80 points Connoisseur

Nice, but too floral for me.
    • Nose
Flower shoppe.  Marzipan.  Rosebuds.  Cracked pepper.  Creme de caramel.
    • Taste
Flower blossoms.  Honey and malt.  Dried fruits, black pepper, and some nutmeg.  Good firm sherry character as well.
    • Finish
      Medium and sweet.

  88. BenNevis scored this whisky 80 points Expert Senior

This is a nice whisky, but I think the 12yo is just as good. Not worth the extra money same as the 18yo

    • Nose
Nose gives some fruits, flowers, cream, light
apples and grapes. It seems sweet, fresh and smooth, but dominated by spirit. Additionally,
some notes of dryness and oak.
    • Taste
It starts relatively fresh, classic, you
can find toffee, white pepper, oranges, apple. Maybe burned apple cake. Relatively
well balanced, but dominated by spirit.
    • Finish
Medium long, relatively sweet with hints
      of apples with pepper.
