  1. Bishlouk scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Overall, this blended malt is quite nice. The alcohol is well balanced, the reduction is not noticeable. Sherry is, as expected, influential. We still feel the youth of the whole. In short, this Velvet Fig can be drunk without asking any questions; but does not provide ultimate shivers either. A good price-performance ratio.
    • Nose
Raisin and fig (his name is not overused). A freshness of wet grass passes fleetingly, then disappears. Tree sap here and there. A bit of hazelnut and orange peel too.
    • Taste
Dry apricot, wet wood, sweet spices. The raisin settles. Some red berries (blackcurrant in the head) are felt, as well as candied orange.
    • Finish
Short. A wave of fruity bitterness first, followed by dry wood and exotic spices. The dried and candied fruits come back in force afterwards.

  2. Koalafant scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

great blended malt that can easily take on many 15 year olds.
    • Nose
Orange peel and dates with light nut flavors next to dark chocolate.
    • Taste
Chocolate and dates again, this time with raisins ... sweet.
    • Finish
long and sweet, ethereal towards the end.

Overall, a nice blend. The alcohol is not optimally involved and overall it is a bit one-dimensional. The smell and the taste make for the price but quite joy.
    • Nose
      85 85
In the nose, the Velvet Fig by Wemyss makes joy. Green, sour apple, herbs and raisins combine to a very pleasant note. A little bit tickles the alcohol in the nose. In the background a touch of orange.
    • Taste
      86 86
A warming, very pleasant taste spreads in the mouth, slightly dry and kräutrig outweigh now rather the woody bitter tones and the fruit flies, apple and raisin are almost not to taste.
    • Finish
      82 82
In the relatively short finish, the woody and bitter aromas remain.

orange peel and caramel on the nose, and a hint of brown sugar. Spice, cinnamon, maybe on the palate. A fine drinking malt but not one I'd reach for.

Initially tasted and scored on release from a generous sample (90 points). Recently opened bottle of this and will edit scoring as my palate has changed so much since the first tasting.
    • Nose
      86 86
Chocolate, figs (naturally, thus the name), spicy oak, then hazelnut
    • Taste
      86 86
Creamy chocolate, grape jelly, hazelnut, then citrus zest
    • Finish
      85 85
Short finish, icewine, then oak bitterness, waxy chocolate

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Plump dates, blackberry jam, very soft oak and maybe a hint of malt loaf.
    Palate:
Figs, dates, raisins, sultanas, in one lovely little package! Sprinkled
with cinnamon, crushed walnuts and ginger, it's all a bit Christmassy,
    it is.
Finish: Ginger and fig last on the finish.
