Balmenach 1988-2014, 25 years, 46% alc. van Wees Balmenach 1988-2014, 25 years, 46% alc.
Bottler: van Wees
Removal: Bourbon barrel Cask No. 2804
Region: Speyside, Scotland
Nose: Fruity and at the same time malty. With aromas of pineapple, mango and peaches. Very light and round. Behind it creamy aromas, maybe toffee and cream caramel, also some vanilla. After some time in the glass, a green, plant-like aroma is added, reminiscent of rhubarb and gradually turns into woody spice.
Palate: pineapple and mango, slightly unripe banana, margarine and gooseberries. Very fruity and also very creamy, then becomes more intense and spicy. Cinnamon and pepper are added, cayenne pepper on the right beautiful onion.
Departure: Long though restrained. Oak wood, pepper and creamy fruit flavors unite and stay a long time behind. At the very end, the oak appears slightly bitter and with a tingling sharpness
Conclusion: Fruity whisky with a spicy soul.
84/100 points (tasted 2015, approx. 95 €)
I thank the whisky house for the sample and the photo!
