Whisky Reviews for Glen Mhor 1976 MBl

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 89.50 points

  1. ColdAesthetics scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

I'm not the mega oak fan, but he manages to integrate them well with intense honey and other nice notes, nothing to complain about.
    • Nose
Nice intense notes of forest honey, toffee, pears, nice apricot with core, ginger, resin, hazelnut, peach, hints of heather and marzipan
    • Taste
Nice sweetness at first, vineyard peach, apricot, toffee, honeydew melon, brown sugar, then very nice oak, pine nuts, walnut, toasted bread freshly toasted but not burned, fennel, chamomile, a little dark malt
    • Finish
Chamomile tea, almonds, grapefruit bowl, nut mixture, medium to long

    sample.

This is quite unique, and the 43% have not tamed it. However i am quite undecided as to whether i like this over dose of oil. Technically this is  very good, except for the fizzy taste(-2 points).
    • Nose
Some green apples at first. Then some very nice oily barley aromas. A hint of wool and a small but noticeable hint of petrol. The is a certain minerality, which is very typical with these austere Highlanders. Harmonic nose but very subdued. This one needs to be worked.
    • Taste
Raw barley and oil mixed with a hint of Marzipan. Some unripe plums and white grapes (maybe). A flowery hint and then in the development there is just a little too much fizzy oak in my opinion. However it remains oily to the very end.
    • Finish
Medium long. Some fresh fruit, and ...you guessed it.. more oil. The afterstaste leaves you with a mouth feel like you've just swallowed a spoon full sun flower oil.

Glen Mhor was closed in 1983 and demolished in 1986. This bottling was bottled on the 50th anniversary of Donald Hart as an independent bottler. Mr. Donald has re-bottled a bottling from his private treasure, which is not a second time. Distilled in 1976 and filled in 1998 with 21 years. Now pulled a bottle for the second time in 2014.
