    Strong, spicy and yet pretty sweet. A well balanced combination that is fun.
    • Nose
      Sweet, perfumed tobacco immediately, pipe tobacco. After a while, clearly sherry, with slightly sour berries, quince bread and an overlying citrus touch. The light smoke is beautifully interwoven with everything. Leather and strong spices can also be found. The nose becomes very heavy and sweet, the sherry dominates, only the sour berries can still hold.
    • Taste
      Extreme, honey-like sweetness, dark fir honey, the alcohol unfolds only slowly. The oak late throws some tannins and strong spices to it. Menthol is also represented, along with a few sour mouth notes. The mouthfeel is full and oily.
    • Finish
      Relatively long and initially quite sweet, before the spice takes over. It sounds nutty for a long time.

    Blind tasting from the 'Proef Olympics'.
    • Nose
      A typical Ben Nevis nose, dirty and meaty but very nice. Toffee, raspbberry sauce and hazelnut. When it breathes or when adding water the raspberry overtakes the heavier notes.
    • Taste
      Sticky toffee. Cranberry, cherry, plum, almond, vanilla and beer barley. A light touch of peppery sulphur.
    • Finish
      Toffee, hazelnut, raspberry, barley and plum.

    Very sulfurous nose, dried fruits. Behind the sulfur of sweet caramel. Wet cardboard.

    Mouth violent. Strong alcohol. Caramelized dried fruits. Quite unbalanced.

    Finale: Heat of alcohol, pepper. Difficult. With water: Much better! Rounder, less alcoholic, sweet. Final explosive anyway.

    • Nose
      Dry malt, aromatic herbs. Quite direct, a little rude. Mineral. Not very balanced, and as a little faded.
    • Taste
      Fairly melted, spicy and vegetal. We recognize the Ben Nevis style, but no singularity that marks the spirit.
      The addition of water emphasizes the spices.
    • Finish
      Missing a bit of scale.
      With water, longer and spicy, but not more complex.

    Fortunately the leathery note on the nose wasn't on the palate as it is a little bit pointing to some sulphur - all in all pretty drinkable
    • Nose
      Sherry, leathery, nutty, hints of citrus fruits
    • Taste
      Oily, creamy, lemony, subtle sweetness, peppery
    • Finish
      Medium long, warm

    All in all, this is quite a versatile bottling. It has a good combination of a dirty, meaty profile, along with fruit and spice. 
    • Nose
      Ahhh, a typical Ben Nevis :). Earthy, with roots, licorice, tobacco, a slight burnt caramel and sulphur note (but pleasantly), peated water (did you ever try?), fresh coriander cinnamon, flor (from the sherry) and a lot of dried fruits. It's not elegant, but very entertaining.
    • Taste
      Thick, creamy toffee and vanilla, again this peated water, sulphur, flor, and dried fruit. This time, some freshly squeezed orange juice comes into play too. The earthy side is more on the background now. After a while, the dirty profile (with camphor) gets louder again.
    • Finish
      The finish is moderate, a tad salty, earthy, with spices and dried fruits. Salty licorice, tobacco, cinnamon, clove, dates, figs, sultanas and prunes.

    By far the Ben Nevis that I prefer (with the atypical Chieftain's).
    • Nose
      The classic olfactory markers of a sherry cask are present: candied fruits including citrus fruits (oranges), dried fruits, soft spices (cinnamon), some old leather, roasted seeds (coffee, cocoa). The whole is distinguished and can remain "light" without the syrupy side of some sherrys.
    • Taste
      Alcohol is well integrated; it's warm, round and really complex, on a beautiful amplification of the components of the nose that have taken volume with the accents of a magnificent marriage of fruity notes, spicy, sweet and subtly liquorice.
    • Finish
      Long, on a slow decay of fruity-spicy notes that have gently slipped to austere notes, a bit bitter (cappuccino) before dying in "beauty" on a somewhat predictable subtle touch of sweet smoke.

    • Nose
      Nuts - walnuts, caramel, fudge and leather. Fruity, citrus and coffee.
    • Taste
      Fruity, honey, fudge and cappuccino. Creme brulee and spices.
    • Finish
      Medium drying with spices, some coastal notes and dates.

    An exciting and warming whisky with dark tones that becomes sweeter to the end. Take your time for this one. 
    • Nose
      On the nose vegetables and nuts. Sauerkraut, hutspot (dish with cooked carrots and onions) and green olives. Unroasted hazelnut, mocha and wet wood provide the dark tones. The sweetness comes from sweetened cranberries (a lot), vanilla and mixed spice. There is a smell of ammonia and (less) boiled eggs which doesn't sound great. But it enriches the whisky a lot.
    • Taste
      Much more sweetness in the taste. A lot of licorice, cinnamon, pineapple and a little bit of lemon. Here again, sauerkraut and bitter nuts.
    • Finish
      A long finish with the sharpness of spicy cinnamon, sweet licorice and bitter tones.

    A very nice Ben Nevis indeed.
    This one is fruitier than the Ben Nevis of The Pearls of Scotland serie, http://www.whiskybase.com/whisky/53276/ben-nevis-1997-gc
    I like that one, but I Iike this one even beter.
    The nose develops very nice over time.
    The finish reminds me of raspberry and strawberry.
