Whisky Reviews for Kildalton 2007 Arc

15 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.41 points

Nose of peat slightly farmhouse, ashes. Peaty mouth of cold ash and burnt wood, a hint of anise, the texture is quite fat. Long finish on cold ashes with a little tingle of black pepper. An Ardbeg quite typical, not very complex but effective.

The bottle has been opened for a while (more than 2 years) and I always enjoyed it a lot.

A simple, chiseled and simply very good young peater.
    • Nose
Same young and clean peat with seabreeze, tar, light ashes and medicinal notes.
    • Taste
Sharp and punchy, briny, smoky and lemony.
    • Finish
Long, briny, smoky and slightly ashy.

It's not every day that you can taste a young Ardbeg. This one, although quite closed to the nose, reveals a profile quite soft and balanced for its age. Another nice selection from Archives!
    • Nose
Youth markers, inevitably. The nose is frank, clean, precise, chiseled. Smoky notes, vegetal, but also marine. With a little opening, it becomes more and more: it becomes rounder and more fruity notes like pear, caramel and lemon take over. All this is included in a nice menthol note. The whole is rather cool.
    • Taste
The peat is powerful but quite fine, leaving room for other more delicate aromas like lemon and pear. A sweet side gives a lot of roundness to this whisky, without making it sickening. It's perfectly balanced.
    • Finish
quite long, but a bit discreet. The fruity aromas fade quickly and give way to (discrete) smoke.

Aha, a short Google search results: a young Ardbeg has since found its way into an independent bottling, a little dream for a balmy summer night (quite contrary to the current weather ...).
    • Nose
Since I had never heard the name of this pale fellow, a real blind-tasting: Unmistakably Islay with a great peat, heather, honey, citrus and earthy and other berries on it.
    • Taste
The drop lingers a little, a slight metallic clinking betrays the boy.
    • Finish
Dry, the Peatige now outweighs the other elements, but still unmistakably young.

Small sample from Whiskybase. 86/87, but the nose deserves 88 perhaps.
    • Nose
Lots of toffee. Peach, lime, orange, peat, chocolate cooky and a little malty touch. The peat is quite tame for such a young (I assume) Ardbeg. Very nice nose.
    • Taste
Peat ash, orange, toffee, pepper, lemon and seaweed. A bit of (artificial) apple candy, perhaps like green wine gums. More of that with a few drops of water to it.
    • Finish
Peat, orange, toffee, lemon, cooky, apple, liquorice, salt, green banana, pepper and even a little cucumber.

Man! I wish I bought a full  bottle of this when it was still available! This dram is hot and peppery and leaves the palate tasting like last nights campfire someone threw a empty plastic bottle into (and that's a good thing). I got a sample after buying a bottle from whiskybase shop.

Excellent! I love this dram: simple, clear, clean and neat. A daily dram of choice!
    • Nose
Pear brandy ultra clean to start, then the smoke rises (soot). Fruits and smoke mingle with happiness. It's accurate, clean.
    • Taste
Moist and oily. Powerful. Basically on licorice, then smoke. We can see fruits, especially white ones. Super clean, super balanced.
    • Finish
Long, smoke and liquorice, on a sweet and fruity frame.
