Nose: Very clean with a nice sweetness balanced well with the rye. There isn't as much rye as I hoped for, but still a good amount. I'd like to say "warm and inviting"?
Palate: Some burn on the first sip - but this is a 3 year old whiskey. This quickly fades to a grainy rye that coats the tongue and sits there for a good minute or so like a blanket. Interesting. A second sip reveals more of the character that I feel was intended by Stillwaters... solid rye and some sweetness, but none of it overpowering. Finish: Quick with some minor lingering notes of pure rye. If you don't drink anything else after this dram, a whiff of rye will come back to your palate every once in a while.
Certainly a dram that can be had neat or mixed. Very versatile. A worthwhile purchase if you enjoy rye whiskies, since this is quite different and enjoyable. Perfect for a hot summer's day by the lake.
