Smells wonderfully old and sherried, while also offering odd-ball flavors on the palate. Not too sure whether it could retain my interest after more than a few drams, but I quite liked this Glengoyne! Long gone of course, but worth a try if you can.

Heavily sherried! Buckets of date paste, dried figs, teriyaki sauce, and condensed grape syrup. Quite woody – reminiscent of old Cognacs. I must agree with some of the other reviews down below – smells considerably older than 15 years.

Sweet arrival, then quickly drying with sour undertones merging into roasted, yes almost burned nuts, dried chili flakes, and orange zest. Supercharged espresso, brown sugar and … oddly enough associations of bitumen, tar, and burning metal.

Medium. Roasted malt candy, dry tannins, and bitter orange peel.

Nose: closed at first but over time the typical dark-sherry flavors come out. Dark chocolate, a little chilli, black berries, burnt roasted malt, orange marmalade, brown sugar, coffee, lots of oak and wood polish. Great nose with many "dark" aromas - looks older than he is.
Taste: another increase to the nose. In itself the same notes but much more intense. Now strengthened are the roast and coffee notes. There are also aromas of roasted nuts, raisins and caramel. The finish is long and is dominated by dark chocolate, aromatic coffee and elegantly spicy oak. Simply heavenly - with the best I ever had in my mouth!
One of my absolute favorite drams - for me a dream of chocolate and roasted aromas!

Simply stunning. A complex and very enjoyable whisky. Powerful, superbly balanced. A malt to savour.

    • Nose
After a reserved start there is a full potpourri of flavours you would
expect from a dark sherry cask. So much ripe dark fruits, huge intense
notes. Orange zest, some dark Seville orange marmalade, blueberries and
blackberries, bitter chocolate and marzipan. Polished oak and cinnamon
      rounds out this whisky.
    • Taste
WOW! A big explosion of sherry, demerara sugar, fruits, rum soaked
raisins and baked apples. The oak is a bit more active than the nose
lets you expect but is intertwined with sherry, chocolate and fruit.
      Elegant and complex.
    • Finish
Good length. Lingering sweetness with bitter chocolate and oaky notes. Sensual and delicately spicy.

WITH WATER: Stays sweet with delicate dark chocolate. Feels a bit tingly.

WOW! That's a true experience. The nose is huge, the flavors come and make room for new ones. With the OA 15er not to compare, no, even beats the 21er OA and I like it well. Blind, I would the best. > 20 years tap and 51% I would not come too. He is wonderfully balanced and multi-layered, I would like to use the evil word 'complex' for it. Everyone who owns a bottle of his own may feel extremely happy!
    • Nose
sweet strong sherry; Prunes; dark caramel in dark chocolate cream; a good portion of rum raisins; the malt typical of Glengoyne comes to light; sweet red, almost overripe, apples; quite easily there is always something spicy-hearty present, not Maggi but somehow in that direction, I can not describe it at the moment; a trail of roasted coffee beans and mocha; dark pie crust with kirsch, as in a good Black Forest cake; so far I have not tried but madness what is coming here; after the first sip, some strong black beer comes after
    • Taste
sweet; creamy mouthfeel; neat sherry; strong dark cherries; Mocha cream; Plum compote with chips of dark chocolate; briefly a little black pepper; roasted walnuts and malt; Finally, blackberry
    • Finish
Mocha and dark chocolate are also here; Compote of wild berries and plums; gets a little drier; a small piece of oak pickled in sherry lingers in the mouth for a long time

A hell of a whisky! Starting amazing, ending even better! Heavenly stuff!!
    • Nose
Heavy, heavy, heavy sherry influence! All kinds of dark, ripe fruits covered under a chocolate fountain. Cocoa overload! Immense sweetness. Christmassy spices. A hint of sulfur. Beautiful!
    • Taste
Smooth, immensly sweet start. A beautiful interplay between sweet sherry and rich oak. Some nuts, choco cookies and rum soaked raisins. Underlined by quite strong alcohol. Again dark chocolate and fruitcake. Pretty dominant espresso at all time.
    • Finish
Long, spicy finish again with a touch of sulfur. Chocolate covered coffee beans in the aftertatse. Sweet and oaky at the same time. Ending with some bitter mokka. Wow!

I don't get what people like about this malt, as i find it totally unbalanced and over oaky. Everything is getting overwhelmed by the intense sherry...
    • Nose
      85 85
intense sherry, walnuts, leather, oak and cacao powder
    • Taste
      82 82
very drying and bitter, too much oak, turns into burnt espresso and pure cacao beans
    • Finish
      81 81
      long, dry and bitter
