Whisky Reviews for Glen Moray 1992 CA

  1. LordBellamy scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

With water, it becomes a real Pina Colada in the nose: vanilla, and pineapple, with some coconut

Conclusion: just with water a very interesting nose, maybe a little too one-dimensional overall, also bothers me the very dry finish
    • Nose
      88 88
very intense vanilla, sweet canned pineapple, some coconut, the mineral barley note of Brennereicharakters is also still easy to recognize, old spicy oak, a little forest honey
    • Taste
      86 86
Vaniile, very sweet and heavily sugared pineapple, mirabelle, oak and tobacco notes
    • Finish
      84 84
medium, very dry, quite oak, but without bitterness, honey, vanilla, cigar box, tobacco

Tasted at a blind online tasting on 04-17-2020. (85/88/88)

  3. dramspotter scored this whisky 83 points Connoisseur

It does a good balancing act of the older hoggie matured whisky; calming and relaxing with heat; embers rather than fireworks
    • Nose
      sweaty fruit
    • Taste
sweet to start but dries quite a bit; further sips restore a syrupy edge
    • Finish
medium; some heat but goes somewhat woody bitter as well

  4. Totoro scored this whisky 84 points Expert Senior

Bucketloads of creamy vanilla. Then sugared pineapple cubes, fruit gums, and some shredded coconut. Also displays a sour and a slightly mineral side (gravel). Not very woody, though there's a warm, tannic edge lingering in the background.

Sweet in the mouth initially, turns then to warm wood, and finally to tart and citric flavors. Even more sour and astringent toward the death. Yikes, this one went the dry route real quick!

The finish consists of quinine, Schweppes (the bitter kind), lime, and salt.

Another dry and austere Glen Moray IB, much like the 1991 Berry Bro's. (https://www.whiskybase.com/whiskies/whisky/35544/glen-moray-1991-br) This is somewhat more fruity and sweeter on the nose. Both are pretty uncompromising on the palate. Same score, I'd say.

P.S. Sure, this is nice if you're into dry, mineralic, tart whiskies. But seriously, you can get this kind of thing from a much younger (and less expensive) whisky, no problem. Why anyone would pay >100 € to get a sensory experience that you could get for roundabout 30 € is beyond me.

  5. The Macallan scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A nice Glen Moray and you gotta have guts to bottle this cask because the vanilla was everywhere!
    • Nose
Vanilla, fruit, slightly oriental, fascinating nose, relaxed but then again not, matured (reduced: lovely vanilla notes and exotic)
    • Taste
Sweet, vanilla, spicy, floral and tobacco like
    • Finish
A floral spicy finish with a whiff of vanilla, soothing

  6. Bishlouk scored this whisky 84 points Connoisseur

Nose: candied pear and hints of candied orange. Exotic spices. The nose fans quickly, by cons, damage. Palate: Fluffy and creamy. Wet fruits, peppery-salty. Finale: Medium and salty. Spices in the throat. Slight woody drought. Verdict: Typical Speyside, well done, but not surprising.
