A very interesting, but not breath taking whisky. Despite it´s "only" 53% abv it obviously needs to be diluted since otherwise the body simply can´t hold up with the alcohol. However by diluting the dram you realize, that it´s missing some more complexity.
    • Nose
Lots of sherry right away. Quite fresh and a little sulfury. Sweet and sour at the same time. Oranges. Lemon peel. Some herbal honey. All carried by powerful alcohol. With some drops of water even more intense citrus fruits, but way less spicy.
    • Taste
Powerful, sweet start. Sour fruits. Then suddenly feisty alcohol biting your tongue. Way to heavy now. Therefore a kinda peppery touch.

I don´t usually dilute my drams, but with this one it´s necassary. With water the sherry is more present. Fresh, green fruits. Quite some oak showing up now as well.
    • Finish
Oaky, numb finish. Medium long. Slightly dry and bitter.

Pretty balanced and balanced. Benefits from a small amount of water.
    • Nose
      87 87
At first alcoholic hot, but that passes quickly. Filigree sherry notes, raisins, wax, caramel, some citrus oil.
    • Taste
      88 88
Strong mouthfeel, honey, sweetness, now more noticeable sherry than in the nose, yellowish fruit; Pleasant spiciness. Very creamy with a little water.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium length, honey and chocolate, tendency to dark chocolate.

An absolutely ingenious Sincle Cask by Arran, combines all sorts of great elements and typical Arran fruitiness. Also one of the roundest whiskys I had for a long time.
    • Nose
Raisinsweet, walnuts, beautiful balance with deep / dark notes, honey and teen notes, lavender tea, rosemary, thyme, red apple, also a little baked apple, rose petals, orange oil, very aromatic, caramel, marzipan
    • Taste
Wonderfully silky and yet full, orange oil, caramel everywhere, honey as well with notes of thyme and lavender still, rose petals, cherry juice, lemon zest, licorice, nice mix of fruit, honey, acidity and even a hint of saltiness, then the nuts come back , Walnuts and pecans, chocolate, fine leather
    • Finish
Here again fruity, the orange, red and green apple, lemon are in the foreground, plus the herbal honey, a little vanilla and toffee, medium to long, sour cherry, malt and a hint of tea in the background next

    There
was a minor soapiness emerging after giving it some air, however it remains
quite pleasant from start to finish. This is a sherry-maturation that is not as
in your face as some true sherry bombs released by Arran. A very balanced dram,
that floats well and is sippable at cask strength very easily.
    • Nose
      A
myriad of spices – ground nutmeg and curry. Evanescent burned matches and
caramel. The alcohol is pungent still and I’m reminded of certain Glen Gariochs
(15yo, ‘99 Batch30). The herbal components are huge and evoke associations of
eucalyptus and black tea. Hovering beneath is a nutty oakiness. With water:
sweeter and more caramel highlight the American White Oak origin of the cask
      (IMHO).
    • Taste
      Sour-sweet
arrival, that quickly racks up weight due to the volume. Orange bitters, lemon
zest, caramelized oak. With water: even juicier with a lemony edge and
      associations of salt.
    • Finish
      Medium.
      Caramel, sweet tannins, and honey.

The private cask bottlings from Arran have been made outstanding by the bank. This chamber-cherry filling is so fantastically balanced and balanced, which I rarely had in the cup in this form. Unfortunately, the price is now very ambitious for a17yo. For around 80 € from my point of view, an instant buy.

    • Nose
Sweet lemons and oranges. Apples, bright grapes. Some vanilla and raisins.
    • Taste
Sherry, red apples, a little chili. Honey, walnuts, milk chocolate. Medium.

  10. Erik Elixir scored this whisky 88 points Connoisseur

    Blind tasting.
    • Nose
      Fudge, orange, almond paste.
    • Taste
      Citrus, orange, syrup and pepper.

      Not very complex but tasty.
    • Finish
      Fruity, some tannins and spices.
