A good, not great Port-aged Malt.
The Benriach 17yo Solstice is definitely the better Option for around the same Price.

A young, intense and very successful malt - in a blind tasting I would not have recognized him as Laphi.
Despite the liter bottle - with about 95.00 € I find it a bit too expensive!
    • Nose
      82 82
      dry aromatic smoke, fruits, berries, port, sweetness (honey) - somewhat uncharacteristic of Laphi;
    • Taste
      83 83
full-bodied onset, mild smoke, some salt, licorice, liquorice, floral, oily, dark fruits, blackberries, port, pepper, oak; the 48% are an ideal drinking strength.
    • Finish
      82 82
      medium length with salt, smoke and herbal flavors; in the aftermath properly dry;

I love the Laphroaig character and the port finish too, but now it's a very grotesque marriage. :)
    • Nose
Peat, smoke, pepper, herbals, camphor, vanilla, fruits and sawdust.
    • Taste
Lemon peel, dark chocolate, spicy oak, earl grey tea, pepper, herbals and hexane.
    • Finish
      Medium length, spicy, dry, smoky.

Nose: Powerful and fruity. The smoke is initially reserved.
Taste: Dark chocolate and soft fruits. Here the Portfass worked well. Behind it comes the smoke and with power the Laphroaig typical medical note.
Finish: Long and warming, becoming drier

Do I like peaty/smoky whiskies? No.
Do I like this Laphroaig Brodir? Yes!
Well that's a good thing to hear from someone who really can't (or maybe could mmh?) stand Islay drams.

It's good? Yes it is. Is it as good as the price is high? This is a much more complex question ...
    • Nose
Dark dried fruit, creamy chocolate, peanuts, old furniture, blackberries. On the background of light sea tones, a good dose of classical medicine (which over time increases) and peat, light pepper spice. It also feels a certain youth of distillate.
    • Taste
Sweeter taste than PX jug - dried plums, figs, toffee, lemon peel, malt. At the same time, there is much more peat at the expense of PX medicine. Creamy, oranges in chocolate.
    • Finish
In reverberation the lemon peel, peat, lemon chocolate, the later strong onset of medicine and woodiness. Long reverb

Nice dram with the Port adding a very pleasant flavour to this obviously quite young Laphroaig.

However no comparison at all to the 2013(?) Port Cairdeas which was a masterpiece by Laphroaig and is way out of this Brodir´s league. Therefore my expectations were a bit higher...

Comparing the price I'll go for the quarter cask.
    • Nose
Soft peat smoke. Nice and light vanilla sweetness.
    • Taste
From the legs in the glass I expected a litle bit more body. There's also more pepper in the taste than I could find back in the nose.Peaty smoke, honey sweetness, little ash, almonds. Salt after licking your lips. With the second sip came a little iodine but not the medicinal taste from many years ago.
    • Finish
Medium long finish. The peaty smoke keeps hanging around. Nice sweetness and salt. Drying out in the mouth at the very end.
