  1. KayMeertens scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

I tasted some very good young Ledaigs lately. This one isn't bad at all, but somewhat overrated in my opinion.
    • Nose
      86 86
Peat, vanilla, apple, gingerbread, tangerine and pineapple.
    • Taste
      85 85
Peat, paper, apple and gingerbread. Water adds almond.
    • Finish
      85 85
Peat. Roasted, burnt even. Apple, dark chocolate, tangerine, minerals and herbs.

  2. Calmar scored this whisky 91 points Connoisseur

The elder brother of the 8-year-old, who develops all its characteristics in depth and breadth while preserving the balance, has a very diverse and deep flavor, and in general, in all components, the barrel is more influenced, not at the expense of the basis, a beautiful example of the young Ledaig.
    • Nose
Cool, fresh, rubber - gas mask, rubber tourniquet, medical plugs; oak, lemon, floral notes, mineral tones - pebbles after the spring rain, stone dust, raw potatoes, wet grains, lemonade, rhubarb, juicy greens, smoked products - cold smoked fish, smoked bacon. The aroma is much more diverse than the 8-year-old.
    • Taste
Powerful and deep rubber background, on it an oak-citrus extravaganza, lollipops, ginger, young bark.
    • Finish
Continuation of taste, slightly drier, with a smoke-coal dominant, soft ginger, light creamy sweetness, apple-plum puree.

  5. Gloin scored this whisky 82 points Expert Senior

The smell is very pleasant, soft and smoky, in the mouth it seems at first to go on, but then it suddenly gets heavy, exhaust fumes and even a little sulfur. The finish is too harsh, it lacks any sweet or fruity counterpoints. Amazingly, the smoke in the finish is rather restrained. blind tasting
    • Nose
medium smoke, mandarin, vanilla, some citrus, soft, a touch of gum
    • Taste
oily body, mild onset, sweet smoke, vanilla, then some pepper, suddenly fumes, sulfur and some spiciness, slightly bitter
    • Finish
the smoke is getting weaker, sweetness is no longer present, black tea, chamomile, long

Note by Serge Valentin from whiskyfun.com:

Ledaig 9 yo 2005/2014 (48.1%, Malt Barn, bourbon, 141 bottles)  Malt Barn (or is that Maltbarn?) are always doing a super job. Small bottlings, great whiskies. Colour: straw. Nose: there, this brine, these olives, this mineral smoke, these limes… And the coastal freshness, plus hints of ultra-fresh butter… All perfect. To think that Ledaig used to be ‘dirty’, this is totally ‘clean’! Mouth: back on the top shelf. Pure, zesty, wonderfully angular (as they say around Pouilly-sur-Loire), smoky, with bits of cracked pepper and perhaps a tiny bit of bacon… Nutshell, it’s young and fresh, plus it’s quite complex. This is what the peoples want. Finish: rather long, immaculate, with this minerality in the background, around soot and ashes. Wonderful. Comments: there's a question I got to ask you, isn’t Ledaig becoming the new Ardbeg? SGP:357 - 89 points

A malt proves that even relatively little time in a bourbon cask combined with smokiness can deliver a great result. Especially convincing in the nose. 87/100
    • Nose
Chimney fire, sweet, fruity smoke, applesauce, bananas, a hint of gum, light vanilla, elderberry, peppermint tea, cough sweets, nettles, later again vanilla and pears
    • Taste
balances between smoky and dry, only behind it a little sweetness, bright fruits and light roasted aromas, develops tingling and increasingly smoky
    • Finish
spicy, green tea, mint, medico-phenolic smoke, in addition to marginal sweetness, little oak on tap, for caramel, remains for a comparatively long time on the cheeks

Seabreeze, minerals, lemon, oily and thick, ham, smoke. Good Ledaig, but misses a punch effect and it is still a bit young.
