Whisky Reviews for Strathisla 1995
9 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.62 points
- Very good concentrated, flavored whisky, for easy to drink without water.
Vanilla, malt, apple and banana, honey and caramel, pepper. Touch of leather and tobacco.
Oily. Flowers, honey, caramelized apple, citruses, cinnamon.
Medium length, sweet, fruity.
- Nice thing. I like it.
Rather reserved in the nose. Dark fruits like cherries and plums. In addition, dried fruit and raisins. A dark sweetness and possibly a little sherry are to be guessed in the background. The alcohol is well integrated.
At first glance, the approach seems reserved, but suddenly it gets stormy with pepper, sugar candy and raisins. A drought is spreading. Tobacco leaves and sherry
Pepper again. In addition, cocoa and light roasted aromas. Now comes slightly bitter and spicy oak.
- a mature whisky, the 19 years go by without a trace. Compared to the 14er handfilled it loses a bit of freshness, which I have so far associated with Strathisla. Good whisky, but the 14er I liked better.
Spicy and ripe, marzipan, wood, hints of fruit. With water comes a few more fruit flavors, but the wood continues to dominate.
Strong, nutmeg, oak. With water, the whisky is sweeter, the wood and the spices are joined by a few fruit flavors and some pepper.
bittersweet, strongly embossed oak, slightly astringent, with some pepper.
Apple juice, caramel, fermenting melon, vanilla, almond chippings, apricot. A strange perfume when adding water.
Caramel, apple and a vibrant nuttiness. A floral touch when adding water.
Caramel, apple, pecan nut and vanilla.
- Pretty drinkable and enjoyable - of course with water only.
This new style Strathisla has not much to do with the very old Strathislas that are very much on dried fruits but I think this is still much better than the regular 12yo.
Malty, ripe bananas, vanilla, fruity, little bit toffeeish, leatherish or tobaccoish
Very punchy and powerful, oily, more on citrus fruits, oranges, just little wood notes, cinnamon.
Water is highly recommended - without it is so strong that there is not much to taste. With water there is a nice and smooth fruity note with a touch of oak.
Long and burning, a tad bitter in the end.
