  1. sagara-kun scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

    Very good. Not too grassy.

Tasted again on 02/06/2021: more grassy, sweetened, minty. But still very good. Rating unchanged.
    • Nose
Cereal, spices, wood, goji, slightly grassy. Fresh mint.
    • Taste
On the palate it is buttery, spicy with a good oakiness. Yellow and white fruits. Old paper. Resin, waxed.
    • Finish
      Herbaceous, lemony, spicy finish.

Nose: At first the wax and coriander fishy smell are very strong but slowly the littlemill-specific floral survives

Palate: At first the taste of wax and coriander was overdone, but after airing, clean fruits and floral, moderate wax, pleasant tannins coming up from behind, plastic and oily unique to the old bourbon cask.

Tasted with a set of other Littlemills from the 1988-1992 period. No detailed notes, but a delicious example of why these LMs are some of the best things to come out of the Lowlands.

  8. Bishlouk scored this whisky 90 points Connoisseur

A very typical Littlemill from the early '90s. And very well done, balanced, greedy, fresh, and seductive. Well yum yum, what.
    • Nose
Fresh grass, lemon, small flowers. By letting the dram rest, the herbaceous calms down (but remains present) to make room for the rest: brioche, fern, yellow apple, green banana. The fruit and the pollen become more and more present as the aeration progresses.
    • Taste
Soft texture, unctuous, and greedy from the first sip. Orange honey, peppermint, apricot syrup, and lemon compote. A tangy / vegetal / fruity blend that works very well.
    • Finish
The plant is needed at once, marriage of flower stalk and cut grass. The lemon (confit) is still present.

Nice balance, rich flavours and attractive aroma's. Not much more you can ask for.
    • Nose
Grassy, mostly dried, but also a little of moist grass. Some old wet oak as well. The fruit arrives after a couple of minutes. Green apples and white grapes. Warm and buttery.
    • Taste
Oily mouth feel. Spicy with black pepper and cloves. Followed by lemon, raspberry and grapefruit. Nice balance, and slightly drying.
    • Finish
Hint of chocolate, some pineapple. Lovely creamy.

Big! Fruity and spicy, but without a hint of sherry. Really very moreish and pleasant.
    • Nose
Waxy with sweet sawdust and wood resin, basil in butter, citrus flowers, icing sugar, and squeezed clementines.
    • Taste
Oily. Very oily. Fruit and spice - baked apple, elderflower, fresh bilberries leading to cloves and black pepper.
    • Finish
Long with a warming cinnamon burn and creamy oak.

    Cadenhead's tasting notes:

    Nose
A little oily to begin with but leave for a few minutes to open up or add a small drop of water at room temperature. As it opens this becomes a classic old style Littlemill with lots of cream and lemony notes with warm buttered brown bread toast, some faint eucalyptus with hot buttered sweetcorn.
    Palate
Much bigger than the nose suggests but very rich and fruity. Some brambles with lychees and hints of fresh basil, some spice coriander and dry vermouth. This dram coats the whole palate with an abundance of flavours.
    Finish
The finish goes on and on delivering more of the nose and palate with the rich oily feel and some waxy fruitiness. Quite remarkable that this is a lowland it's feeling much bigger than that.
