Whisky Reviews for Glen Scotia 1992 TWm

  1. lachaineduwhisky did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

    (Anyway I prefer Metallica)
    Enthusiasm: Nose 2/5 Mouth 3/5 Final 3/5 Whisky n ° 1681
    • Nose
Maritime malt, waxy. A little flat but with sweet cherry chelou.
    • Taste
Fade, "machous", thick, syrupy. Sweet but "hollow". Fragrant spices.
    • Finish
Residual spices. Pretty long and caressing. Liquorous, sticky limit.

  2. ScotchGuyTO scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Holy nuggets, this is next level gear. Sweet and smokey, rich and very drinkable.
    • Nose
The nose...well it's kind of epic (much like the label). Super oily, rich maritime and strangely cut hay. Sweet grass and citrus and petrol. I'm almost lost on this.
    • Taste
The palate shows off a different beats. Monstrous peat and big malt, smoke... Aggressively so. Huge body, more preserved lemon and tea leaf tannins. Over ripe fruit and hints of cocktail bitters.
    • Finish
The finish is medium in length. Surprisingly smokey, intense and rich, loads of parked malt, polish and hints of coffee bitters.

  3. Calmar scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

Uncomplicated, but powerful and dense, the barrel, apparently a weak bourbon, had little effect for 22 years, but overall it's nice.
    • Nose
Open, sharp, dry wood, vegetable notes, a little rot, window putty, pre-foliage, grain tones, cooled porridge, thinner.
    • Taste
Powerful, sweet-malty, oak, moonshine, peppery wave, simple, but very rich.
    • Finish
Warming, grainy, candied orange, syrup, a bit of bitter herb, generally more sweet, a little grapefruit.

  4. Xaver did not rate this whisky Expert Senior

Interesting. Because very complex. You have to deal with that ....
    • Nose
The colleague starts for me, with a clear, salty leather note. A sweetish, slightly phenolic smoky note appears. Trail mix with honey. Vanilla, caramel, chocolaty. Reminds me somehow, of a freshly bitten Snickers. Cooked bright fruits. A subtle fragrance note, comes from the background. With a little more time in the glass come garden herbs and spices. He's kind of oily, harsh.
    • Taste
Pleasant, spicy start. The one who develops his power the farther he comes back. Salty, juicy apricot. Some bitter nut flavors. Clear marzipan. And always this slight smoke, which is above all. Cold espresso. Sweet notes spread, but are soon replaced by the spicy oak. The longer the colleague stays in the mouth, the more tart fruit notes are noticeable.
    • Finish
Medium to long. Slightly sour orange and slightly bitter. But gets oily and sweet. At the end there is a note of Haribo licorice.

  5. Rom did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

Nose of yellow fruits, honey and figs. Nice harmonious mouth on mirabelle plums, iodine, honey and wax. Short final unfortunately, a bit metallic. This final is disappointing but it is a good whisky that is reminiscent of Clynelish.

  6. Ivynor scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

The final lacks a little punch but the rest is very nice.
    A good Glen Scotia
    • Nose
A lot of fresh fruit (peach, cherry plum), a little wax, paraffin, a side clynelish
    • Taste
Rather greedy and balanced in sugar, with a beautiful fruity (yellow fruits), traces of vanilla and dried herbs, a little wax.
A little side "old style" that reminds me of a 1988 VW Balmenach
    • Finish
Average length, on honey, heather, yellow fruits

  7. bvrsky scored this whisky 88 points Expert Senior

    The
club tasting @ The friends of the Quaich had this whisky in their lineup. It
surprised me with the nose of chocolate, fig and marzipan.

    Then
the taste, I simply loved it. It was my number 2 of the tasting, and the
    tasting’s nr. 3 with 43 points.

The whisky loving metal fan, what a niche to target! Being part of this target group, I felt obliged to at least try this one. Although these prices are becoming a kind of 'selling them whisky and taking their gold', I do actually like this one quite a lot.
    • Nose
Cherry chocolates, toffee, apricot, marzipan, hazelnut, orange, fig, berry liquor (Ginjinha), limestone, curry, vanilla and some smoke. With water some grapefruit. Seems like a wine finish.
    • Taste
Dark chocolate with marzipan. Cherry, minerals, whole wheat bread, grapefruit, toffee, spices (curry), orange liquor (Grand Marnier), roasted almond, peanut, smoke and a little wax. A bit of sulphur as well. With water more orange. Rum? Interesting dram!
    • Finish
Cocoa, nutmeg, curry, cinnamon, toffee, cherry, peat ash and hazelnut. Again a whiff that seems like rum.

  10. Falnor scored this whisky 89 points Expert Senior

Hail to Iron Maiden!! With populair whisky like the Arran Devil's punch bowl and Bowmore Devil's cask, we've got ourselves nicely themed designs. However, it still needs to taste great...

Strange rather peculiar whisky. Very oily and whiffs of glue. Also waxy and mineral. Not all that fruity, but it's uterly intriguing. A smoky side that's more into coal and burned paper.

After nosing, I taste some apple and vanilla. More herbal with anise, mint and dried leaves. Again oily feeling with some smoke on the backgroud. The whisky is sweat, spicy and also bitter.
