Nice smoked ham nose, marine aroma and slightly medicinal.

Nice and salty in the mouth, pleasantly smoky, somewhat fruity with strong but well integrated alcohol. Salty, smoky, long finish. The longer the bottle is open, the more I like it. Significantly better than most bottlings after 2008. I gave 89 points at first, but improved to 90 in the opened bottle.

    1. Smell idea: Ardbeg
But slowly ... see details below

Conclusion: I will stay with Ardbeg. The Ardbog is fruity / cherry in my memory. So Uigi. But in great. Probably an old ...
If the washing powder note didn't bother me, it would be 90+ points ...
    • Nose
      86 86
First sweetness on the nose, then smoke, smoke becomes stronger, clear on the peaty side. Islay.
Alcohol incorporated relatively well. Honey, citrus, menthol. Salty? In any case, slightly maritime. A couple of fruits. Off-note: washing powder.
After a sip, the barrel comes through better in the nose. More flavor.
    • Taste
      93 93
But more alcohol. Decent start. Smoky front, then caramel, coffee, dark chocolate. Sherry barrel! On the better side. Spicy oak, less fruity. Alt. Less sweet than expected on the nose. Complex.
    • Finish
      87 87
The peat smoke comes through again. Spice still present. Again the washing powder. Lasts a long time. A touch of chocolate comes back. I like it, but not as complex in terms of aromatics

    A very good Ardbeg
    • Nose
With water: deep smokiness increases in intensity, reminiscent of a Christmas pudding on fire. Tarry smoke and diesel engine oil enter the room bringing smells of an age gone by.Rich flowering currants and warm baked bananas, walnut bread  coffee notes like mocha expresso.
    • Taste
Flavour is sweet as a cake.Begins to soak into the tongue.A burst of winter spices sets off a smoky-spicy explosion countered by a sumptuous mid-palate of honey glaze smoked food and chewy treacle.
    • Finish
Long and chewy with lingering raisiny, deep mocha tones and rich aromatic smoke. Perfect in balans

  9. thijs100 scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

A big step up from the Ardbeg 10 I recently tasted, which was already pretty good. This has more balance, depth and richness. Better in every which way.
    • Nose
Salted peanuts and toasted oak accompanied by campfire smoke. It's followed by moss and pinewood with earl grey tea. Some sweet sherry notes, almost like red wine. And a hint of varnish too. Wonderful balance.
    • Taste
Peat, iodine, rubber and wood smoke. Briny with ginger and pepper. Finally some burned caramel and toffee.
    • Finish
Rubber and peat. Earthy. Some lemon and vanilla. Long, smoky and sweet.

Sherry golden the Uigeadail glows out of the glass. The nose is flattered by a mixture of clear sweetness and smoke, paired with ocean arms. Pear flavors show up clearly. The whisky fills the mouth completely. A potpourri of sweet fruit, sherry and toffee and of course peat smoke and sea flavors. Glorious. The finish is long and warm, bringing the peat and sweeties   back.
A very complex and sophisticated whisky. To sum up, this whisky is just wonderful, as long as you like smoke and peat.

A really must for hard whisky lovers, not for weak hearts.

    • Taste
A pesar de su sabor a tierra y ahumado, se percibe intensamente el dulce del jerez. Final muy largo.

  26. Jean-Brice scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

A dram with which I had a lot of difficulty at first. But the more I drank it, the more I liked it. A top q / p ratio especially outside France ... :(
    • Nose
A really round nose. Between peat and sherry. Between sweet pastry and dry sea.
    • Taste
Alcohol well controlled and continuity of the nose.
    • Finish
      Long.

  27. QuarterCentury scored this whisky 92 points Connoisseur

A fine drop of Ardbeg bottled at cask strength. A marriage of Ardbeg
from bourbon barrel and sherry butt which gives a sweet and smokey finish to this malt. Uigeadail is the loch from which all Ardbeg water
flows. An absolutely stunning whisky, and following the demise of the
Airigh nam Beist this probably represents the best value in the core
    range.

  28. Lafroy scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

    It's the one I cant's leave without.
    • Nose
Very peaty and smoky. Additionally, some notes of iodine, asphalt, coal, fruits, sweetness and notes of sherry.
    • Taste
Very elegant and well balanced, peaty, smoky with hints of ashes, burned potato, salt and seaweeds.
    • Finish
Very peaty, smoky, powerful, incredibly sweet, fruity and long.

Great great whisky. There's not much left to be said about it as everyone seems to love it.

But, there's no bottle codes on the above, and since I just checked mine & can't add/edit the above, I thought I put it here in case people want to list the different ones and see if there were multiples in 2008.L8 315 17:29 1ML

  30. CrilleVBG scored this whisky 91 points Expert Senior

A superb whisky, which no one can do without.
    • Nose
Smoke as usual, a little tar. But also unexpected fruitiness.
    • Taste
A wonderfully complex flavor of smoke, tar, with some hints of fruitiness ..
    • Finish
      Long and lovely finish.
