Whisky Reviews for Clynelish 1995 MoS

Clynelish is one of my favorite distilleries so it's nice to try another one this evening. This one distilled in 1995 while the previous Clynelish tonight was distilled in 1982. Let's see how it tastes.

Nose starts with raisins, leather and salted dark chocolate fudge followed by strawberry jam, oranges, and dark brown sugar.

The palate carries on where the nose left off and adds more salt and then adds cinnamon sugar.

Finishes off with a dash of sweet pepper, then some salt followed by some oak, and then cinnamon at the end.

A sherried whisky indeed. Had I tasted this whisky blind, I never would've guessed it to be a Clynelish. But who cares, because this whisky is absolutely gorgeous.
    • Nose
Classic dirty sherry with chestnuts, pinewood and burlap. Coffee, mocha and soy make an appearance. Finally a bit more sweeter with rum soaked raising, but also oranges. Lots of subtleties here, but I can't find any Clynelish characteristics here.
    • Taste
Sherried and woody with exotic spices. Then forest fruits, brown sugar and chocolate with a bit of citrus and a slight salty quality.
    • Finish
Black pepper, bitter wood and a hint of smoke. Very long.

Complex beautiful Sherry Clynelish with typical saltiness
    • Nose
Powerful sherry, leather, spices, rum raisins, salted dark chocolate, wild pea soup, soaked dried mushrooms, dark soy sauce
    • Taste
      Sherry and wood, grapes,
Citrus and orange notes emerge with water
    • Finish
very appetizing, salty, sea air, the sherry sticks very long on the palate

Already, I'm quite fond of whiskys matured in sherry casks. But when I meet one that does not hide the profile of the distillery (which is often the case), which is good and more complex; there I (almost) an erection.
    • Nose
The color of this whisky already announced ... the color (well OK, it was easy): the sherry imprint is well marked. Gingerbread, caramel, brown sugar, hazelnut, mocha, blackcurrant. But also a little paraffin (the famous '' waxy '' sometimes present at Clynelish). A mini iodine breeze when you inhale the dram for a long time; but we must go and get her, that one. After aeration, a pungent vegetal freshness.
    • Taste
Exotic spices first, followed by a sweet-salty mix. The sweetness is obviously due to the maturation in sherry casks: brown sugar, stewed black fruits, milk chocolate. The salt probably betrays the coastal style of Clynelish. On the other hand, I do not detect any more waxy notes here.
    • Finish
Long. An alcoholic kick is revealed when you swallow. The iodized smoke here is more present. A little bitterness woody tip the tip of the nose. Salt lasts a long time on the tongue.
