4 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 80.37 points

  1. bennythemonster scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

Aureum "Grave Digger Edition" (distillery Ziegler), 6 years, original bottling, 43% alc. Extending: oak and chestnut barrels, matured in bourbon and sherry casks. Region: Baden-Württemberg, Germany
Nose: banana, really ripe banana. Then immediately overripe pears and crumbly apples, grape must with a slightly sour note. Some toffee and cream caramel, then the banana comes back. Behind it mixes a little vanilla.
Palate: again fruit, fruit without end and then a light malt note and a spice tone. Also on the palate banana is present again, but less mature than in the nose.
Finish: Medium length with slightly floral tendencies, slightly bitter spiciness. Warms up in the stomach.
Conclusion: A lot of fruit - without any associations to fruit brandies. A beautiful wood experiment, which gave a lot of flavor.
    87/100 points (tasted 2015, ca. 50 - 60 €) I thank the distillery Ziegler for the samples.

  3. holborndrinker did not rate this whisky Connoisseur

Released in partnership with German heavy metal band, Grave Digger.Portions of the whisky were aged in Allier oak and chestnut casks for a year, before being aged for the rest of their maturation in bourbon casks. There's also a portion of Sherry-cask finished single malt and peated single malt.

  4. Tom na Gruagaich scored this whisky 75 points Connoisseur

Unusual whisky due to its spicy and slightly artificial notes.
    • Nose
Exciting, bouillon cubes, paprika chips, yeast extract, subtle fruitiness, more citrus and a strong sweetness.
    • Taste
Again, some bouillon cubes, altogether very soft, mild, slightly oak, rather musty, a little more lively than the nose.
    • Finish
slightly tart, minimal metallic, very spicy, tart, without too much oak, slightly salty.
