    Room temperature when drinking: 25℃

Viewing Eyes: light gold and fragrant Nose: sour taste is obvious, fruit vinegar, dried apricots, almond snowflake crisp, a little woody. High sugar content, de-fruited meat, succulent fruit, longan, honeycomb honey, sweet-scented osmanthus cake. A little bit of yeast dough, walnut buns, toast. In the second half, there is a little bit of meat, small sausages. The sweetness of this smell reminds me of smws, a wine that has passed the Moscatel barrel.
Taste Palate: Overturn the fruit basket. Yellow tropical fruit, Shakya, litchi, peach mousse, dried mango, banana, salted pineapple, boiled apple, braised red pear. A little bit of misery. Ah I'm dead. Finish: Long, yellow rock sugar, honey water, canned yellow peach, sugar man body: Medium, oilyness explodes, relatively solid, few tannins, medium bitter bottom

    Nose: 86/100
    Palate: 92/100
    Finish: 86/100
    Body: 92/100
    Overall: 89/100

Overall: Although I like Palate very much and gave a high score, I still feel that it is insufficient. The second half collapsed. The fruit basket in the first half changed a lot. When it reached the end, there were almost no other elements except the bitter bottom. Slightly weak

    Sample from a friend.

Macduff is a funny distillery. It’s only been around since the 60’s and from when it opened up until 1972 has a great reputation. From about 72 until 1980 the quality seemed to drop noticeably (from what I’ve read), and then in 1980 there are some great ones again. From about then on Macduff has done little to garner praise from even the most open minded drinkers... Some great deals to be had with Macduff, but check your vintages...

Another great one this is. Loads of honey, wax, a floral freshness (honeysuckle, meadow flowers). Lots of tropical fruits, such as, kiwi, guava, passion fruit. Not unlike 70s Tomatin.

Loads of honey, soft wax, meadow flowers and honeysuckle. Sharp fruits like tangerine, clementine, kiwi, apricot.
    • Taste
      91 91
More honey, if that’s possible. Spearmint freshness and fruits pick up exponentially. Mango, guava, tangerine, mint...
    • Finish
      93 93
An explosion of tropical fruits. Guava, passion fruit, kiwi, mango, guava for sure, tangerine. A little fresh mint in there for good measure. Very very fruity. Quenching, long and satisfying. Not unlike the hyper fruity Irish or old Tomatin. At least this is my reference.

This Macduff 33yo is really fabulous, with a nice balance, and these fruity notes will delight all whisky lovers (and specially Speyside whisky lovers, of course). That’s totally my stuff and I want more! And… this bottle is superb with this landscape printed on the back and which stands out as relief through the whisky. Well done guys!
    • Nose
We directly know that this one will be a very fruity one! And more precisely we’ve got here yellow fruits, apricots with a little extra sweetness brought by caramel and honeyed notes. It’s very fresh and very sweet, a fabulous nose as I like them!
    • Taste
Like for the nose, yellow fruits predominate, a beautiful fruity delicacy with slight spicy notes. The apricot is a little less present than with the nose but… Damn, it is fresh and sweet again! A fruity delight enhanced by a touch of oak. As my grandmother would say, “the little Jesus in velvet panties” <3
    • Finish
Long, honeyed and fruity to finish in style. A note of tea, wood and spices also.

A well balanced whisky that fruity whisky lovers will love for sure, in any case me it's quite my cam!
    • Nose
We know directly that we will be entitled to fruity! And more precisely yellow fruits with the added sweetness of caramel.
    • Taste
As on the nose, yellow fruits clearly predominant, a beautiful fruity delicacy with very slight spicy notes.
    • Finish
A medium-long final. We remain on a beautiful fruity note to which we will have been entitled from the beginning to the end. A very slight woody side reminds us that we are not on young whisky.

There is no need to procrastinate: it's good! Very! Sweet, fine, balanced, it's a very noble whisky. Sip calmly, just to have fun.
    • Nose
Directly jovial, fine, delicate, and even greedy. A whole program for the future! Candied yellow fruits, honey, apricot in a mess, and caramelized peach. After aeration, the dried flower mixes with varnished wood.
    • Taste
Melting fruit paste and flowing honey. Sweet spices compete for the place of choice with juicy yellow fruits.
    • Finish
Average. Woody appears, drying the palate a little. Fruity honey persists. A fine dust of old wood passes here and there. Small minty notes appear at times.

Not extremely complex but I love its profile. Great body and nice balance. Reminds me of 70's Springbank or early 80's Highland Park, which is a compliment of course.
    • Nose
      90 90
Honey, apricot, litchi, vanilla, new leather, beeswax, papaya and banana.
    • Taste
      91 91
An intense honey sweetness. Quite a lot of smoke, unexpectedly. Litchi, apricot, apple, vanilla, banana, oak, marshmallow, pepper and mint. When adding water the profile stays the same but the treacly body is torn apart, which is a pity.
    • Finish
      88 88
Litchi, apricot, apple, mint and smoke.

    Macduff 33 yo 1980
    (47,5%, Golden Cask Reserve 2014, ref. CM210, 125 btl.)

Nose: this is a kind of profile that I really like and that’s rarely found on the market these days. Beautiful bananas with beeswax and coconut. Stewed fruits, apricots and mandarin. Hints of pineapple. A nice freshness of herbs and nice spearmint. Soft oak as well. A 1970’s profile really. Mouth: starts gentle, even though the resinous oak is on the foreground. Bags of mint and liquorice. In a second wave there are lovely hints of passion fruits and apricots, too bad they don’t last very long. Dried coconut again, as well as touches of Early Gray tea. Finish: long, with grapefruit, mint tea and cinnamon.

Nice stuff, although you have to like a bit of oak in your whisky. Not very surprising given the age of course. Around € 190. Sold through representatives in different countries, e.g. Kintra handles the distribution for The Netherlands.

    Score: 90/100
