The sherry on this is quite prominent but doesn’t dominate the profile, very well balanced with the waxy, oily Clynelish character.

There’s a lot of flavour to this, but nothing particular sticks out at first and one would be forgiven for thinking that it’s a boring whisky at first, but once you sit down with it for a good while you realise it’s just absolutely perfectly balanced. A work of art this.Reviewed in my blog:https://iwriteaboutstuffilike.com/2017/05/26/clynelish-18-twe-bottling-for-the-whisky-show-london-2014/

It's sad the nose doesn't keep so well together when water is  added. Neat it is spectacular.

I have this nagging feeling this one might be reracked. It shares cetain similarities with the Glendronach single cask series.
    • Nose
Oh wow. Grease, old pencils, pea pods, reeds, something like meat stock, then celery, and saltiness. Pocket of a leather coat, then something that reminds me of a 15yo Bellevue rum single cask I had a bottle of a while back.. Extremely unusual and as such very attractive. With water: more herbal and woody now. Like a red wine with old oak and quite a bit of earth.
    • Taste
Neat: The taste is a promising if a little closed still, but I can't tell if oloroso or px [in retrospect it's probably oloroso since I can't find any brown sugar notes] . Water: the body is still a little flat. Maybe it needs a lot of water? There is some of that old style whisky coppery oiliness here. I don't know how that happened but I do love it. Gets way oakier and more peppery with more water, but also waxier so that the wood doesn't overpower everything. This is well made, of that there is no doubt. More water is better, as the body becomes properly full.
    • Finish
The finish would be great if the body would be more present in it. Now it is a great mix of sherrywood and cocoa with tannins and that character wax, but leaves you wanting just a bit.

An absolutely wonderful whisky, well deserving of its fabled reputation.
    • Nose
Dark sherry notes with milk chocolate and some light aroma of polished leather and resin, as well as an earthy quality. Cigars and mushrooms. I like it. Especially because it also has a surprisingly fresh side to it, with some lovely lemon peel.
    • Taste
Chocolate, cherry syrup and espresso with a pinch of salt. Earthy and tobacco leaves, with mint as well.  Also a fair amount of spices. Cloves, cinnamon and black pepper.
    • Finish
Spicy with cappuccino. Ending on black pepper and menthol. Fairly long.

Nose: Thick sherry, chocolate, balsamic vinegar with a splash of lemon and a lot of salt. Black elderberry, forest and blueberries with delicious honey. Flavors of tobacco leaves, wood stain and oak wood chips also add spice. In the background black pepper notes whirl up the nose neatly.
Taste: Soft and round, super salty-spicy dark fruit notes with tobacco, vanilla, herbs and relatively much oak, but this is well laminated. But also jam toast, malt and leather. To finish a bit tart and dry with emerging chocolate notes.
Finish: Medium length - more and more bitter-bitter woody notes with creamy marzipan, coffee, mocha and liquorice. Dry-herbic, but without the previous salty seasoning. Round and creamy even towards the end!
Note: Highlight is definitely the middle of taste - super powerful - then flattening relatively quickly towards the finish!

The sulfur is a little too present by force, which prevents it from totally carried away, but very beautiful sherry.
    • Nose
Very concentrated, vinous nose. Old dust and precious wood, leather and red berries. Quite dirty. Very promising.
    • Taste
Thick and concentrated on the palate, nut juice and beautiful spices. A slightly sulfur wax at the end of the mouth.
    • Finish
Smoky wax and cherry liqueur on the finish with some earthy notes.

heavy and beguiling with slightly dark notes, spices, syrupy, sweetish, fruity, but also heavy sherry aromas, some oak. Balanced and very appealing.

sweetish, aromatic, warm wood notes, a hint of hot, spices, sherry, a hint of barrel and coffee, delicately tart then sweetish again. * With a little water fruity and a little softer, benefits from it in terms of taste.

at first delicately tart with fine oak notes, then sweetish, slightly sherry fruity, somewhat spicy, but persistent, very long and pleasantly finished. Not styled, but perfectly balanced. Well done, bravo.
