Tasted blind I was not expecting this to be the Linkwood; it was remarkably better than I was led to believe and I was not alone on the night in this regard
    • Nose
      figs, toffee, some bourbon
    • Taste
      fruity note, alcohol not bad

Very good. I could tell this was an aged whisky. Very fruity, a longer finish would make it extremely good.

Tasted at day 15 of the Usquebaugh Society blind tasting competition 2015.

I thought this was a Speyside whisky, but I didn't know which distillery, so my guess was a Mortlach, 18yo at 57%.
    • Nose
Honey sweetness, yellow fruit, banana, apricot, peach, citrus, leather, some oak. Deliciously fruity!
    • Taste
Sweet and strong, ripe red fruit, banana,
    • Finish
Medium long, red fruit, some dark sugar, matly, slightly drying, not bitter at all

Not the best cask in my opinion. The age has benefited its texture, but I've had better 1990 Linkwoods.
    • Nose
Marzipan and vanilla. Initially a little glue. A fatty fruitiness: papaya? A little caramel and coconut. With water some orange, peach, cinnamon and blue cheese.
    • Taste
Honey, dried apricot, caramel, pepper and almond. I hoped that the addition of water would open up a world of fruit, but instead it turns more nutty and even a bit musty. Eventually there's a little honey and raisin.
    • Finish
More nutty: Hazelnut, chestnut. Still some dried apricot and caramel, plus a whiff of smoke.

  9. Koalafant scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

    • Nose
      Caramel, vanilla, toffee, some sherry
    • Taste
Sweetness of sherry and dried fruits, very round and creamy, some pepper, sticky sweetness
    • Finish
      long, warm and sweet

    N: Mineral, malty, herbal umami!
T: Amazing rich popadom malt arrival which stretches out wide to become a flourishing malty fruit bomb. Fantastic!
F: Lots of spirit activity, finishing with a chalky, vanilla maltiness
    C: Buy, buy, buy!!!

    Scores an A
