Peated non-Islay whiskies are shooting up like mushrooms in these days, but are they really worth your attention? The nose of this Benromach 'Peat Smoke' is intensely sweet, phenolic and oily with notes of spiced apple pie, anise and dried herbs. Zesty and bitter in the arrival, the taste develops with pineapple, over-brewed tea and hints of salt, all surrounded by sickly sweet honey and vegetal peatiness. After a flat and almost abrupt finish, featuring white pepper, tannins and traces of fennel, I have to admit that this expression is 'just another peated malt'.

Smoke on the nose with a sweetness behind. Delicately woody and salty. More and more salty, even. In the mouth, it's a real sweet / salty with a delicate touch of vanilla, a hint of caramel. The finish is especially salty. Adding water is unremarkable. Enthusiasm 4/5

behind all that lemons and a little icing sugar.
    • Taste
really a lot of sooty smoke, charcoal, salty lemons.
      very simple but pleasant.

    N-
Much heavier and complex version when compare to the 2004 distillate.
While the initial puffy smokes do not stays long...just like the old
version, but this 2015 offers a lot more complexity on the follow thru
with charred citrus peel, petrol, wet branches and decay salted smoked
    fish notes built up overtimes.

    P- Gentle, light with honey,
slightly too fruity. Rather thin texture with drift of phenol. Would
prefer a bit more robust wood influence build into this.

F- Medium, burnt hay, mild spicy, bitter-ish with prickly dry and chewy spirits. Raw at first, but got better it go on.

Great, a fantastic combination of sweet fruit explosions, big smoke and loads of earthy peat. The typical sweetness/peat combination reminds me of Benriach Maderensis Fumosus. It's just right up my alley. Big thumbs up for Benromach.
