Another great example of how good Glendronach was, before taken over by the Americans.
    • Nose
      88 88
The nose is to me the best part. Full sherried and sweet, without losing the typical Glendronach mark and style. Dark fruit in combination with raisins.
    • Taste
      87 87
After some drops of water it is still a full body dram. Thick and oily. Peanut, dark fruit and nuts.
    • Finish
      86 86
Medium long and losing its thickness of the taste. Sherry-notes fade away and things become a tad bitter.

    Nose:
Very sweet and clearly an thick PX nose. It is, however, not over the top. There are these raisins together with other dried red fruit, some Christmas cake and other sweet influences.

    Taste:
OOOOOMPHFFF. that comes in hard. Clearly a sherry bomb. It needs quite a bit of water. It does remind me of the A'Bunadh. Very heavy thick sherry. It is quite nice though, but a bit up-front.

    Body:
    Full and oily.

    Finish:
Rather long. Very clear sherry notes. These notes keep lingering and fade away with a tad bitter tannins.

    Price:
Don't know, this was a given sample.

This is another great example that some bottles do need some time to come alive; if you pour this one out of a fresh opened bottle you probably will be dissapointed in both nose and taste, even if you leave your dram in piece for 20 minutes. It's sulfur all over the place, harsh and not pleasant. How things can change if the botlle has got some air and is left in peace for a few weeks!

There's still sulfur present, but now it adds something to the dram instead of spoiling it. Must say this has great flavour and depth for just an 11 yo; PX written all over it.

    Good stuff.

I like this one a lot. It's got a very full sherried body compared to e.g. the 2003 cask for Mitra on which the cask has put a much lesser mark. It can't beat the phenomenal 2002 cask for De Wijnproevers (in which The Old Pipe was also involved), but it isn't far behind either. Needless to say that it's completely different than the oloroso version, cask 5552.
    • Nose
      88 88
Mocha, hazelnut paste, dark cherry, prune, raisin and honey. Initially a little hairspray as well, it needs to breathe for that to wear off. A cognac-like touch of orange. Eventually also some lighter fruitiness like cranberry and especially with a drop of water, raspberry. But the general impression is very dark.
    • Taste
      89 89
Hazelnut paste (Nutella), raisin, dark cherry, mocha, pepper, prune and cranberry. With water more raisin.
    • Finish
      88 88
Hazelnut paste, mocha, raisin and roasted chestnut.
