Being the first whisky to be certified 'Organic' by UK Soil Association standards, this Single Malt is a bit of a trend-setter. Maturation in American virgin oak casks gives this Benromach a surprising depth and complexity, which is rarely found at this young age. On the nose, I get banana, apricots and toffee with lemongrass, marshmallows and hints of fresh mint. All very sweet and spicy. Tropical fruits, green tea and even a touch of chili follow on the palate before the lingering, cask-dominated and mildly dry finish kicks in. This dram is refreshingly different!

Golden, slightly peated, fruity and slightly spicy. This is how I would describe this ORGANIC (Water and barley would be 'organic', hence the name)
    • Nose

Fruit, yeast and some notes of oak
    • Taste
      82 82
Cereals, malty taste, and slightly spicy pepper
    • Finish
      82 82
Spicy medium-long finish, light peat (15ppm) offers just that little bit that I love.

An interesting whisky. The raw material (barley) seems to be of excellent quality. This is evident in the aromas.

sweet, vanilla and honey, the virigin oak does its trick nicley - fresh citrus, green apples, fruity but spicey as well, nice oak influence. Finish is all right, gets a bit oaky at the end. Fine everyday dram!

    • Nose
Malty-spicy nose. Clear oak freight. A touch of coffee. A little coconut flashes shortly. Milk chocolate.
    • Taste
Spicy start. Clear 'pepper. A lot of chocolate. Frame mouth. Some banana.
    • Finish
Medium. Pleasant warming. Milder, but still the pepper is palpable ..

An interesting dram and very different from your standard Speysides, also I find this quite different to the other Benromach range. Worth a try.
    • Nose
Initial alcohol hit has a short blast of petrol, it quickly passes into sweetness, I get candy floss, sweet citrus tones, then into some old wood notes (like the old school smell), but a lot of sweet fruits, candied fruits, spices in the background, pepper.
    • Taste
Creamy but not too sweet, it follow the nose of old wood/school smell for me, then comes the sweetness and toffee. I get a real sherry note, even though it is not at all sherry cask, maybe that comes from the medium sweetness and creamy mouthfeel.

Water opens up more grassy, herbal or rather musty notes and changes the taste. I actually prefer it without water.
    • Finish
      Medium
