Great whisky of which I tasted a sample. As I do not exactly know the price I rated it at 87. Normally I rate van Wees bottlings at 85. But I "upgraded" it in order to avoid the impact on the total score.

In my opinion casknr. 72323 and 105092 are the best of all Ultimate Longmorns.

I love all Longmorn Whiskys from The Ultimate. I myself have 1 to 3 bottles of each cask and there are 8 different barrels. The Cask Strength Longmorn and Tamdhu are so far one of my favorites!

This whisky is nothing you should try if only Caol Ila and Laphroig make you happy. For all others this is such a deep, flavoured and great Whisky, that trying it should be on everybody's wish list. I would prefer it above every Macallan I have tried so far. A truly great whisky.
    • Nose
Sweet dried fruit and chocolate, nuts or almond, orange. With water same sharp tingling, but only in the background.
    • Taste
A huge bandwidth of flavours, all in the raisin, orange area. With water more fruit comes out.
    • Finish
      Long, sweet and fruity

A great, promising nose, but the pleasure mostly stops there. It was a high time to bottle this one.
    • Nose
This one is loaded with dark fruits, all kind of berries, prunes. There is a slight mineral edge with chalk, rust, metal, and some nice lighter fruits, mostly on peach and mango. Great, bold, straightforward and complex nose.
    • Taste
A bit too sharp without water, the age and alcohol do shine through a bit. Chilli, pepper, ginger. The sweetness is there too but it's largely masked by the sensation of burning and bitterness.
    • Finish
Quite hot with the reminiscent sweetness, but the bitterness and spiciness are a bit too pronounced.

What a nose, just extraordinary! It's another league. The taste and finish couldn't really cope with the high level of the nose. Still a very, very good whisky, mind you.
    • Nose
Soft, sweet and rich. Fudge to start with (vanishes quite soon), milk chocolate, dates, blackcurrant and sultanas, leather, peach on syrup, honey, fruit cake, but also something fresh and green (garden herbs, like chive). This brings sufficient balance. The nose keeps developing on tea chest, polished wood, apricot, and allspice. With water: rancio, mocca, licorice root and mushrooms.
    • Taste
Big enough, almost bold, but within boundaries. It's high on ABV, and it shows it's muscles. A little on the sulphur-y side (struck matches), but that's a pleasure. Gets a bit meaty (beef stock), spicy (pepper, nutmeg, cinnamon) and still juicy enough (dried yellow and red fruits). In combination with the spice, the herbal side gives a slight tannic edge.
    • Finish
Dried fruit, rancio, tobacco, leather, beef stock, bitter chocolate, pepper linger for quite a while.

There is nothing subtle about this whisky, a solid sherry bomb with a savory edge to it. Longmorn matured on good/active sherry casks is always a winner for me. And this is no exception. It needs some time to open up as this one can be a bit sour at the start but that fades quick enough. A wee drop of water brings out the fruity tones but also accentuates the bitter side of this dram.
All in all a mouthfilling, powerful and lush Longmorn.
    • Nose
A rich, intense, savory, sweet and complex whisky with aromas of this lush sherry, licorice root, dried fruits (peach, apricots, figs, plums, sultanas), forest berries, spices (allspice, cinnamon, white pepper, sweet cloves), caramel, fudge, toffee, vanilla, old tea, hint of wine vinegar, dark honey, coffee, tobacco, cedarwood, leather, hint of mint tea, bitter chocolate, red fruits, butterscotch, hint of eucalyptus, cherries, brown sugar and rich toasted oak.
    • Taste
A powerful, intense, thick, dry and spicy whisky with aromas of lush sweet sherry, pepper, tannins, oak, cedarwood, cinnamon, allspice, nutmeg, sweet clove, hot ginger, dark pine honey, dark caramel (almost burned), toffee, fudge, sticky toffee pudding, old bitter tea, chocolate, dried fruits (raisins, plums, cherries, figs, dates), grape seeds, licorice root, bayleaf, brown sugar, old leather, wax, old furniture, cigar tobacco, hint of brine, mocha and more bitter oak.
    • Finish
A long, rich and dry finish with aromas of pepper, licorice root, sal ammoniac, bayleaf, lush bitter sherry, dried fruits, backing spices, fudge, bitter chocolate, tannins and bitter oak.
