Whisky Reviews for Caol Ila 1991 CC

3 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.71 points

  1. hartist scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

A pretty caol is not so classic that it seems at first sight.
    • Nose
Lemon peat, that's what this nose thinks about first. Added are malty scents, vanilla and liquorice.
    • Taste
Sweet, oily and quite complex, on lump and lemon peat with well integrated light tar residue.
    • Finish
Medium length on lemon and liquorice peat.

  2. Toffie76 scored this whisky 86 points Expert Senior

not bad at all, very classic
    • Nose
smoke, peat, creosote, gouache, lemon, ginger, vanilla, pepper. With liquorice powder (sweet, hot) icing sugar but also a lot of cloves. Yeasts, motor oil, oyster shells, iodine, seaweed.
    • Taste
covering and oily texture. The attack is frank, on the fat peat and smoke. Olive oil, tar. The dram loses power in development and suffers a bit of restricted alcohol. A lot of salt and iodine on the end. And always the smoke that persists (more than peat). Citrus in the background and fishy flavors in small successive touches
    • Finish
smoke, bitterness, sea water, oysters, tallow

  3. Bishlouk scored this whisky 85 points Connoisseur

A Caol Ila that has a profile of Laphroaig, I think. Nevertheless well done, it should appeal to lovers of peat.
    • Nose
Peat is clearly present, with a mixture of dry straw, hay smoke and farm notes. Behind the peat, vanilla hints can be felt.
    • Taste
Citrus fruits are more present than on the nose, and even play on equal terms with peat. Waves of lemon syrup.
    • Finish
Short. The peaty drought lingers for a moment, burying the fruits.
