Good nose on sweet sherry, caramels, chocolate, toffee and something very slightly winey but I cannot really describe it, this is all mixed with a few cake notes and faint hints of peat.

There is a slight bubble gum taste and bags of fruit gum flavours, I have to say the flavours really work here. Hints of chocolate, cream and then the peat comes through and mixes with the sherry in a really beautiful combination

The finish is not the longest remaining sweet with the fruit remaining, mango, hint of peach other white fruits and a little treacle cake mixed with tinned fruit syrup.

What a lovely taste, excellent, the nose is on the light side but who cares when it tastes this good.
It is a simple profile but it works.

I suppose this was rather mediocre in those days as it's a bit out of balance, but this old school profile has something nostalgic about it that drives my score up.
    • Nose
      89 89
Furniture polish, papaya, caramel, macadamia, apricot and a whiff of smoke.
    • Taste
      88 88
Nutty and smoky. Leather, apricot, furniture polish and pepper. It appears much higher in alcohol than it is.
    • Finish
      88 88
Nutty and leathery with dark chocolate and some smoke. The fruitiness is in the background now.

Pretty drinkable and okayish but also rather simple
    • Nose
Nutty, malty, toffee, some wood notes and honey
    • Taste
Oily, smooth, oaky, subtle sweetness - very little fruits like citrus fruits
    • Finish
Medium long and warm - a tad bitter in the end

Color: rose gold. Aroma: Wow! Nuts, wax, sweet sherry, but subtle, aniseed, some amaretto, alcoholic but very pleasant, furniture polish, praline, gentle oak wood influence. Middle body. Taste: Slow development, initially dry, then becomes sweeter, mouth-filling, nutty, the finish is always fruity, briefly flashes slightly fruity-bitter. Hard to taste oak wood, very well integrated. The sherry stays in the background, but clearly noticeable. In the end sweet, dry, liquorice, some oak. Summary: A malt with a wonderful balance that does not need water. Who says Islay whisky always has to be purged? 85P
