Flowery, very fruity tropical nose. That's how ü 30y bottles smell today ... with luck. After a while, then slightly salty, smoky, maritime. Neither time nor barrel can harm a jumper. Livelier, younger in the mouth. Delicious!

Reviewing this from a sample bottle.

Nose: Beeswax, truckloads of pineapple, citrus, fruit syrup, papaya with mild saline aromatics. This is what I would call a tropical fruit party! Instantly reminds me of the beach. I like it, I like it a lot. 'Springbank goes to Speyside.
I don't think this is as good as its sibling 15-year (same bottle design, but bottled in 93), but we're talking by a beez.......wax. (pun intended)
Returning back to the glass now, grassy notes, aromas of herbal tea. This is similar to a modern profile, but stir in some OBE, and we have some whiffs of antique dust, and some dried mangos.

Palate: Oh wow! The incredible explosion of tropical fruits, that pineapple really shines in the front palate, then dissolves into a medley of herbal fruit teas, sandalwood, beeswax, a hint of paraffin.
The finish drives home, salty, with loads of citrus fruits, and even a hint of orange peel. Wow actually, I'm liking this more than I initially was. Medium-long finish and this is going from 91 to 92pts. Well done my old dusty sample, you've been quite the experience.

Beeswax, honey, dried mango and tropical fruits dusted in powdered sugar, something savoury (pastry crust?), some minerality. Wet stone. Granite (not flint), cold copper pipes and a little butane.

When sipping the Beeswax comes forward stronger followed by the honey and savoury pastry. Think peppered sausage roll. Well integrated. Surprisingly peppery from the alcohol for 46%.

Unfortunately I tried the smallest of samples - on a train, in and mask during a pandemic. Probably an experience that can’t be repeated!

    Just fabulous stuff.
    • Nose
A fantastic complex nose. Earthy notes dominate (putty, mud), together with freshness and sweetness of yellow fruit (apple skin and lemon) and tropical fruit (mango and lychee). Add to that a typical Springbank minerality, salted almond and a trace of smoke.
    • Taste
Rather full-bodied at 46%, a tad salty, but also fresh and earthy together. The putty and mud perfectly match with the smoke, lemon and various tropical fruit. Further there is vanilla, salted butter, marzipan and a pinch of pepper. Nothing really dominates, which is very pleasant.
    • Finish
Also here, there is no dominance and all characteristics from the palate remain. There is a woody note as a bonus.

Another expression of the Springbank 12yo from the 80s. It's a bit smoother than the other one.Barcode 2 060188 280494 (shoulder label: single malt whisky)
    • Nose
Honey, beeswax, green apples, pineapples, tropical fruits
    • Taste
Oily, smooth, fruity, touch of vanilla and smoke

Pretty okayish, a typical old Springbank of the light ones

Bottle barcode 2 060188 265989 (shoulder label: over twelve years old)
    • Nose
Fresh fruit salad, pears, apples, pineapples, honey, touch of vanilla, beeswax, toffee, peat
    • Taste
Fresh, fruity a bit grassy, faint oak wood and smoke
    • Finish
Medium long and a bit burning

Fruits, pears, honey, beeswax and some grassy notes. A typical good Springbank but not the best one. I prefer the darker Springbanks.

Pours a light amber.  Nose is pie crust, melted butter, a not quite brown sugar note that is somewhat more exotic, maybe cloves or even cumin, or curry leaf (that's a real thing).  Mouth plays between the typical pie crust, brown sugar flavors and the weirder, indian thing that's more prominent in the finish.  There's definitely some nice almond cake and delicate light sweets.  Finish rolls along nicely, brightly, with a good alcohol heat coming through.  Overall not something I would buy again, and I'll have to try some more old Springbanks to compare.

    Springbank
    12 yo (46%, OB, black label, 1980’s)

Colour: straw - a very light 'vatting'
    - sorry Ulf, I mean 'normalization'.

Nose, starts on full beeswax and
    seaweed. Superb, simply. Lots of
    dried tropical fruits, shoe polish,
    marzipan, dried coconut, satay sauce,
    straw smoke, bitter almonds…
Lots of wet stone and some aromas
that you can find only in Springbank.
    Again, superb.

    Mouth: again lots
of dried fruits, wax, creme caramel,
    vanilla fudge, bitter almonds. Great
finish, getting a little meaty (smoked
    ham).

    92 points.
