Picked up this sample a couple of years ago, but didn’t get around to drinking it until Aug 2021.
Aroma is pretty muted, faint fruit salad, apple flesh, someone across the room is drinking sherry. Touch of play-dough.
Taste carries no heat at all, drinks closer to watered-down sherry than whisky, the peat that I believe is meant to be present in this series (and that I was expecting) is subtle. The cracked black pepper in the finish lifts the very muted vanilla and waxy notes.
Drinks dangerously easily, like something you could be drinking in a larger measure. There's nothing wrong with this objectively but I would maybe prefer more impact and complexity. If I had come to this blind I might have been more generous – it’s clean, easy, superbly drinkable, well put together. Like a good blended Scotch. But if you’re expecting peat, sherry and impact this might not deliver for you. 3.475/83
