Nose

Rosinen überall, Datteln, ganz leichter schöner Schwefel, Bitterschokolade, alte Eiche, Lavendeltee, Schwarzkirsche, Vollkornbrot und Pflaumenmuß

Taste

Tasting Note by The Chaps at Master of Malt

Nose: Big, bold and ballsy. Peanuts dipped in a little Marmite, moving into literally all of the Eat Me Dates, Coco Pop cakes and a small book of struck matches.

Palate: The entry is just as big as the first whiff, with some darker, slightly burnt dried fruits now. Allspice and chocolate too, still fairly dense and savoury though.

Finish: Long, more of the same.

Overall: A fairly uncompromising Sherry beast.

The tasting notes probably don't sound too positive, and certainly if you agree with Jim Murray on sulphur you'll want to steer well clear of this - but if you're a fan of deeply savoury beery flavours you may get on with it

[May, 2017] Another pricey Diageo release but at least not a NAS as they do nowadays (Remember: Never Accept Stupid marketing!).

The nose is on a light sherry and heavy nutty profile (and I thank the gods of whisky that the slight sulphury aromas are not annoying).  The first mouthfeel is coating and warming, no hot moments despite the high abv.  And an incredible nuttiness develops on the palate as if you chew a mix of shredded hazel nuts, brazil nuts, almonds and the like.  Quite extreme but very delicious (if you like bold nuts - no I miss out the nasty joke here).  The medium to long finish keeps this profile but gets more and more spicy as well as chocolatey.  I like that!

With some drops of water the nose opens up to a sweeter sherry aroma and gets more balanced.  As does the palate, but to be honest I like the big nuts of the neat dram more (oops, I did it...).  The finish looses a little power on the water, but the chocolate flavours grow stronger.  I am somehow divided about using water or not - maybe it is best to have two glasses with both versions at your hands.  But this does not work with just one sample and I refuse unwaveringly to buy a bottle at this price tag!

PS:  I would buy a bottle at max. half this price (maybe once the current whisky bubble bursts)...

wonderful Sherry influence. raisins, dark fruits, nuts, a hint of mandarines in the nose and on the palate, mingled with fine oak spices, what a fine dram!

Unusual, the nose suggests a sherried whisky. The taste is a sherry bomb. A hint of smoke, excellent lengthy smooth finish.
