A simply outstanding malt, which has inspired me here for the first time tasting. This extreme and powerful blend of red wine and smoke, sweet and pithy leather - not only as suggested by other bottlings - is just right. You do not often have that in the glass, so much the more delighted I am about my bottle.
For sure not a bargain, but in my opinion worth every penny. A Malt for special hours, to switch off and enjoy.
    • Nose
Directly proposes to me an incredibly strong red wine flavor. From the nose it could just as well have been a glass of red wine at first - fantastic. After a short while, the smoke typical of Port Charlotte comes to the fore. Sweet, fruit-laden smoke is now rising in the nose. Red berries and some fresh leather blend together to create a very austere bouquet. As time goes by, the smoke becomes lighter, with some malty sweetness, with slight hints of Mon Chéri. I do not know when I last had such a brilliant smoke / wine blend in my nose. When Octomore 2.2? Would be interesting to taste these two times in parallel.
    • Taste
The malt leaves the tongue tingling directly, the 62.9% Vol suggest without alkolisch act. Subsequently, the Palaemon spreads surprisingly sweet in the mouth. The smoke initially no trace, instead an almost syrupy sweetness. Sugared raspberries and cherries stand out from the fruit basket. Then an almost tangible wine aroma, which reminds me directly back to the beginning strong nose. Only after the malt is a bit earthier, pithier and becomes leathery. Wow!
    • Finish
In the medium long finish, the sweetness is shown again for a moment, before the smoke breaks out of the mist and shows once again that a Port Charlotte was actually bottled here. The high alcohol content is noticeable neither in the mouth, nor in the finish. Water really does not need it here.

I had tasted the Palaemon shortly after its appearance at a fair and found it terrible. Somehow only sulfur and nothing else. Having heard only good things since then, I got a sample to give me a second opinion. The difference to that time is not explained by the shape of the day. No idea what it was then, but it was a difference like day and night. Of course, I take back my points from back then and join in the hymn of praise to this great smoker with perfectly integrated wine influence.
    • Nose
The glass has been standing for a while and the room fills with a vinous aroma, sweet, creamy, the typical caramel and cheesy Port Charlotte note, raspberry, very fruity, a little sulfur and above all a not too obtrusive smoke, which brings a little spice with you, tobacco
    • Taste
intense, very sweet, raspberry, nut, a little bit of sulfur, blends wonderfully with the dry smoke, which is very tasty for a taste, a little espresso, alcohol hardly felt
    • Finish
behind dry, oak, the dry smoke lasts for a long time, sounds warming, it smells nutty and it then flashes every now and then a little fruity sweetness

Probably one of the best whiskies I‘ve tried so far; unforgettable taste, perfect balance... an absolutely inspiring dram, no water needed.

    nose:
earthy peat, caramel, cooked wine, pastry spices
a little iodine, salt on the barbecue which enhances the scents
some sweet raspberry candy, the juice with the saliva that comes from it, salt and sweet caramel again; mulled wine cooled with spices and the sugar that goes with it
    mouth:
a breath of maritime air with fresh peat, salt, smoky aromas, sugar, fruit on raspberries and blackcurrants (exposure of the barrel which hides a little peat and comes in toasted caramel, fruit candies and the wooded area that arrives there)
a little horse saddle, less clear peat, hidden by the red fruits giving a mixed impression of fruits, meat, dirty peat
    final;
long, sweet, the cold ash takes precedence over the dry peat there, the red fruits always more dried out, concentrated
just a perfect Islay dram, alcohol barely smells

reminds me of 29.260 from afar!
