For sure not a bargain, but in my opinion worth every penny. A Malt for special hours, to switch off and enjoy.
Directly proposes to me an incredibly strong red wine flavor. From the nose it could just as well have been a glass of red wine at first - fantastic. After a short while, the smoke typical of Port Charlotte comes to the fore. Sweet, fruit-laden smoke is now rising in the nose. Red berries and some fresh leather blend together to create a very austere bouquet. As time goes by, the smoke becomes lighter, with some malty sweetness, with slight hints of Mon Chéri. I do not know when I last had such a brilliant smoke / wine blend in my nose. When Octomore 2.2? Would be interesting to taste these two times in parallel.
The malt leaves the tongue tingling directly, the 62.9% Vol suggest without alkolisch act. Subsequently, the Palaemon spreads surprisingly sweet in the mouth. The smoke initially no trace, instead an almost syrupy sweetness. Sugared raspberries and cherries stand out from the fruit basket. Then an almost tangible wine aroma, which reminds me directly back to the beginning strong nose. Only after the malt is a bit earthier, pithier and becomes leathery. Wow!
In the medium long finish, the sweetness is shown again for a moment, before the smoke breaks out of the mist and shows once again that a Port Charlotte was actually bottled here. The high alcohol content is noticeable neither in the mouth, nor in the finish. Water really does not need it here.
