Whisky Reviews for Talisker 2008 DL

7 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 84.19 points

    • Nose
      Very light white wine

Light, sweetish smoke. Then dry wood comes to light. He needs some time in the glass. I'll stick to a hint.
Passion fruit and sand. Asphalt steam and angekockeltes leather. From the background comes lemon and rancid fat. What salty, modriges joins. He still smells of wet steel. But somehow not directly boyish. With even longer life in the glass, he smells of powder and ginger.
    • Taste
First softer, slightly watery onset. Oha ... then spice up. Even subtle chili, I would say. Modrige air and brackish sea water. Now comes the smoked bacon. Moist, mineral taste. Old olive oil. Above all this sweetish smoke.
The second sip I find something like dried orange and unripe fruit.
    • Finish
Rather long and neat spicy. Mineral and rather dry. What stays in my mouth reminds me a lot of barbecue cheese.

In 3 years time this would have been pretty decent but it was fun to try and its quite lively.

At 5 years no cask integration and it obviously tastes young but it is too young and should not have been bottled.

Worth a try for the novelty value of such a young Talisker.

    Difficult to score.
    • Nose
Smells like Ardbeg 10 a little but with more cheese. I am not a fan of Ardbeg so this is not a good start.

Very sweet peat and pepper with brine.
    • Taste
Just like the nose suggested, creamy, peppery, peaty with smoked ham and cheese notes.
    • Finish
Quite long and fizzy getting quite dry.

Rather educational than enjoyable. You do not have the typical peppery Talisker notes with a strong maritime touch but much more. As well, with almost zero barrel influence? Although not a friend of überdominanten barrels but this would have been really appropriate.

If you really want to experience Talisker in his (almost) original form, you would be well served with a sample of this. You do not need a whole bottle of it. Is neither a Daily Dram nor is he very complex.
But comes in a nice linen bag.

    No points.

exciting Talisker UA, unfortunately there is a lack of depth and complexity.
    • Nose
The first smell I have a slightly sweet smoke in the nose, behind a smell that reminds me of Apfelcider. Then the smoke changes, some ashes and smoked bacon come in the nose. The alcohol is available for 50.7% but not so prominent, but more in the background.
    • Taste
Like a small tornado, first smooth, malty, behind it all washed ashore wood. The storm is getting stronger. Sea, salt and iodine are on the tongue, some malt. Then the storm unfolds completely. A certain chilli-catch is palpable, some pepper.
    • Finish
Here then the barrel is washed up. Woody, with lots of vanilla and a long finish in the mouth. With a little tingle (I do not know how I get goose bumps) he sounds like that.

    Talisker 2008-2014, 5 years, "Speakeasy", 50.7% alc.
    Bottler: Douglas Laing
    Removal: Hogshead No. DL10039
Region: Isle of Skye, Scotland ... Special feature: Bottled for the 15th Whisky Autumn / 2014. Nose: Young and fresh, medical peat smoke with iodine and bandages. Slightly peppery, white pepper. In addition a very light citrus fruit and a grassy note in the background. Palate: Very light mouthfeel, some peat smoke and citrus fruits. A little vanilla and malt sugar, also iodine and pepper. Finish: Here comes the whole peat smoke in cask strength. Long and warm, yet fresh and clean. Again, the light citrus. Conclusion: Pfeffrig but without the usual Talisker-sharpness. On the palate he lacks some profile. 84/100 points (tasted 2015 - not available anymore)

Pours very, very pale gold.  Nose is wasabi, baked peat cake, vanilla, light lemon candy, some odd chemical, touch of sweaty malt.  Mouth, wow! So bright and sharp, attacking with oyster brine then citrus then lots of peat, going long, long.  Very aggressive.  Something in this I can't put my finger on...pine?  Solvent?  Stinging along the back palate all the way through.  Some vanilla and sweets start to come out along the finish.  I dig the aggressiveness of this though the sweet vanilla isn't my thing.
