    • Nose
      86 86
American oak and sherry up front, followed by tinned tangerines, marzipan, orange juice, almond milk, and spices like caraway and cardamom. Also a musty side: damp earthen cellar, dusty attic. After a while, there's more complexity to the fruit with a touch of overripe pineapple. Pretty enjoyable overall.
    • Taste
      85 85
A lot of oak and mustiness in the beginning; it seems that the Manzanilla casks used for finishing were of the old and timeworn type. The fruits are there, but nowhere near as present as they can be in Glenmorangie, and noticeably more ripe (or "darker"). I'd say glazed banana, ripe apricot and tangerine, but your guess is as good as mine, since it's all a bit muddled and not super-clear. The old oak from the finish dominates and spreads a layer of leathery, nutty and salty / musty tang over everything. All in all, not bad if you'd like a darker, more sherry-centered Glenmo.
    • Finish
      84 84
While nose and palate exuded a certain sense of age (if I had to guess, initially I would've said this was around 14 years old), the finish is less balanced and makes the malt appear a bit younger (say 10-12 years). Still some nice nutty and salty/savory sherry tones, but there's also some chili-like heat bristling on the tongue and less depth overall than expected.

An unusual Glenmorangie. Actually, a tasty Easy Drinking Dram if not this subtle sulfur note somehow dominant and slightly disturbing in the background would be. This malt is fruity with very spicy wood and a slightly salty note. Unusual and yet somehow delicious ...
    • Nose
Clear and radiant amber Glenmorangie shines in the glass. A plethora of long streaks runs leisurely down the glass wall, dried fruits and berries pour out of the glass. Full-bodied apricot and orange aroma mixes, a subtle hint of sulfur lies in the background. Dark caramel and a dash of malt and grain are added, floral notes and a slightly grassy impact make the Glenmorangie appear fresh. A pinch of salt, a touch of leather merges into a sulfurous note, again grassy and flowery, then raisins and peach again. The nose is complex and releases a wide variety of flavors.
    • Taste
Spicy wood with a fruity twist makes the first sip pleasant to remember. The dried berries return again, the subtle note of sulfur (unfortunately) as well. A pinch of salt is distributed over spicy wood elements, the second sip flows creamy and slightly sharp over the tongue, a pinch of pepper makes the palate glow and exudes a bitter aroma. Dark caramel comes to the fore, fruity berries mingle with bitter wood. Nutty the Taghta goes into the finish.
    • Finish
Herb and yet fruity, the Glenmorangie rests on the tongue. Dark and old walnut aroma mixes with dried raisins, above all lies this subtle note of sulfur and spreads a tart and slightly meringue aroma in the mouth. For a long time, these aromas resonate and are pleasantly remembered.

I really enjoyed this one.Unfortunately, i came late to the party and the prices have gone up too much to justify buying a bottle.

[September, 2016]  I had this dram during a FoSM club tasting.

    In my old rating system (ten scales that translate into WB points: 50 - 66 - 75 - 80 - 82,5 - 85 - 87,5 - 90 - 92,5 - 95) I scored it 85.  I took no detailed notes as this whisky did not interest me.

  16. EarlMobile scored this whisky 82 points Expert Junior

Nice Glenmorangie with the typical floral notes. Towards the end, an extreme sweetness comes from the manzanilla barrels. Somehow delicious, but also from the taste (a little bit) too young.

  17. Tommyknocker scored this whisky 87 points Expert Senior

again a successful whisky from Glenmorangie, can certainly convince me the Companta and Ealanta have liked much better.
    • Nose
an interesting mix of canned peach, salt and wood flavor. Later honey and vanilla. The classic Glenmorangie flowery. Nice that this was not covered by the finish.
    • Taste
sweet, delicious onset, a lot of yellow fruit, then some woody spice, also here, the slightly bitter salt note can prevail. Very interesting and novel.
    • Finish
      medium length, fruity

  18. KayMeertens scored this whisky 86 points Connoisseur

The difference in quality with the Dornoch is less than the average score here suggests in my opinion. Both don't come near the Companta by the way, which is still clearly the best one in this series.
    • Nose
Peach, caramel, raspberry, cherry chewing gum, milk chocolate and nutmeg.
    • Taste
      Caramel, peach, cherry and pepper.
    • Finish
Caramel, cherry, chocolate, raisin and clove.

    • Taste
nice sweetness; sherry; wood; balanced sweetness; creamy; nutty

    blind tasting

    Color: bright amber

Nose: very own. First reminded me of a Thai
Light fruits, lime, hay, banana and vanilla bean

Mouth: very soft, lemon sorbet, passion fruit, tingling, strawberry jam and pepper

Finish: Medium long and a bit dry

Tip: no idea. I'm not even sure it's a Scot. This whisky should definitely be young.

  23. yoavg did not rate this whisky Expert Junior

I was a bit disappointed from Taghta. Too much sourness and not much sweetness on the palate. Good whisky if you like your dram without much sweetness and lots of sour notes. Full review is here: http://whiskygospel.com/2014/11/23/whisky-review-and-tasting-notes-glenmorangie-taghta/

In all a very nice and drinkable Glenmorangie, that is easy to like - but maybe not as sophisticated as some of the limited editions like Finealta.
    Tasting of a pre-release sample.
    • Nose
A pleasant sweet and salty nose, a little quality butter. A mild fruitiness of pears and lemon, as well as salted roasted almonds and a fresh floral note.
    • Taste
Almonds again, nuts, a little rose water, malty notes.
A very delicate balance of sweetness, saltiness and bitterness.
This is a very elegant malt, a little light bodied. The alcohol is perfectly integrated, and so is the sherry finish.
    • Finish
The weak part of the dram, it is a little short, and brings nothing new.
The tastes simply fade nicely, with no oakiness or off notes at least.
