I liked this malt. I am leaning for a middle age of 15-20 years. Probably a sherry cask, but rather a butt refill. The nose is undeniably charmer dry, complex and changing, the mouth a little steep without water. Varnish notes make me bet on a Japanese, since it is the mystery sample game.
    • Nose
Slightly alcoholic. The nose is intense. It develops a fruity hard to define, vaguely exotic (papaya?). The whole is soft, creamy but framed by light peat notes perfectly distinct which evolve towards the rubber and the varnish reinforcing with the aeration. Spices too, and in good quantity (white pepper). This malt is a player: sometimes the glazed peat is dominant, sometimes it gives way to this almost pastry and exotic sweetness. With water: the whole becomes drier and looses roundness.
    • Taste
The attack is treacherously sweet. Because behind, it deposits well! Over 55% I think. The palate is fat and fruity, greener than the nose, but also peaty. With water: the peat is more obvious, the greenness too (green banana). The pepper of the nose is also found in the mouth.
    • Finish
I would have liked it longer, although it already is. There is smoked malted barley. A beautiful peaty retro-olfaction and the return of this particular fruity, as well as some vegetable bitterness.

    Yoichi 1987/2006 (63%, OB, LMdW, cask # 113200, Warehouse # 15)

    Color: Light amber
Nose: The nose is floral and fragrant, yellow fruits, citrus and light peat in the background.
Very islay like style with some sweet notes on candy and vegetables.
Nice freshness with iodine in the background.
The addition of water brings farm and citrus notes.
Palate: Peat, on cold ash, is more present but not dominant.
The aromas are nicely melted with yellow fruits, cider and aromatic herbs.
The alcohol is controlled, no aggressiveness.
The addition of water brings out citrus fruits and iodine.
Fairly long finish on citrus fruits and a little pepper.
My favorite of the series 1986 to 1989.
