A masterpiece of work of a combination of peatiness and smokiness + sherry notes. Classic Talisker with more complexity and richness contained.

Nose: Bread?? It smells like a raw croissant with a lot of butter. What happens when vanilla and sherry flavors are combined? As I blow it away, a lemony citrus blooms. Why can't Pete feel?

Palette: A little salty and burnt taste just now. The fresh acidity and umami taste is quite good. Easy to eat too. It leaves a bit of a bitter taste, but it's not a big deal.

Finish: Subdued medium finish of ash and orange

Overall Review: Personally, I want to give it a better score than Hapac 18. The downside is the bitter aftertaste, low alcohol content, and a greasy nose?

It was fun to be able to find the sherry flavor more and more while drinking, and this time I can feel the salty taste of tally less.

There is a waxy, sticky oily feeling in Webe, I don't know?
Would it be different if I drink it from a bottle?

18-year-old aged in Bourbon and Sherry casks, the power is much weaker 45.8 and after its predecessors it seems delicate and creamy.
    On the nose
Do not smell smoke, here we have a lot of fresh sour green fruits, but not only citrus, sweet vanilla, pleasant and not intrusive.
On the tongue of a delicate whisky (at least after its predecessors), a sweet smoke appears here, slightly peppery and fruity, after a moment of "stickiness" a chocolate appears in the mouth, which is left at the end with the fruit in the ashes. The sweetness slowly fades into semi-dry flavors. Some spices.
    87-88 I can't decide

Smooth and full of characters. The signature peppery kick finish is there.

In my pre-historical scoring method, it's an 9/10.
    • Nose
Saline. Candied sweetness. A whiff of vanilla.
    • Taste
Mildly peated. Smoked wood. Fruity. Chewy toffee. A touch dry and bitter at the edges.
    • Finish
Mid finish. Initial peppery kick, quickly smoothened and lingering in parallel to the fruit sweetness.

    Great whisky!
    Full bodied and balanced!
It's always nice to warm up with the dram of this drink!
I tried this year compared to 2020, 2020 loses (less bright and less colorful).

A thorough, unhurried, measured whisky to the smallest detail. Perhaps this is my favorite Talisker in the regular lineup.
    • Nose
The sea (salt, iodine, algae), an extinct fire, nuts, broken apples, slightly rotten fruits, toffee, spices. Very good!
    • Taste
Light smoke, honey, delicate shades of salt, iodine, herbal tea and oak.
    • Finish
Long, warming, moderately peppery, moderately smoky, with hints of honey, vanilla, pastry, and at the same time notes of salt, iodine and butterfish.

DD: “The tell is on the nose. Be led by the nose”, she says.
“Salty, briny,… horse blankets,……”, says one of the panel.
“It’s dry but still juicy”, says SS, trying to help them. “An everyday dram,… but not the best example”.
SV: “Did the distillery lose its manager recently”?
All eyes are now on Sukhinder who replies “,… you’re completely wrong”.

After the reveal, SS concludes with “You can find the gems in everyday whisky”.

I’m frustrated I didn’t guess this given I’d been enjoying a bottle at the time [WLP89], on the back of Serge’s review six weeks earlier [WF90]. It’s doing the rounds too as Ralfy [85] also just reviewed Talisker 18 on the back of its inclusion at the OSWAs last month.

A harmonious combination of smokiness and maritime flavor with a very good price / performance ratio
    • Nose
      87 87
Subtle smokiness, transitioning into a dark fruit note. Less pepper than expected.
    • Taste
      88 88
Initially smoky, then transitioning into extensive spiciness with a hint of leather. Slight peppery note, but less than other bottlings.
    • Finish
      88 88
Pleasing length. Confirmation of the taste impressions in connection with a late wood note.

The nose starts out maritime, earthy and fruity with apricots and nectarines. In addition, a certain meatiness.

In the mouth it is oily, soft and sweet-sour-fruity. Over time the Talisker typical pepperiness.

In the finish, the apricot opens up again before it is replaced by pepper, nutmeg, damp wood and a little ash.
    Length: 6/10

Overall, great aged whisky that retains the Talisker DNA but is much more sedate and fruity than its younger brothers.

    RATING: 87pts – |87 – 89 (B+) → Great| — Always nice to have a bottle of this.
    • Nose
      88 88
The nose is delicate and ideally balanced with notes of gentle peat smoke, iodine, dried fruits and cereal.
    • Taste
      87 87
The taste is greatly balanced again with a profile of peat smoke followed by raisins, dried fruits and bakery.
    • Finish
      87 87
The finish is quite long and pretty layered with peat, dried apricots, cereal and has hints of salty caramel.

A much more complex, constrained and evolved version comparing to the 10YO.
    • Nose
      87 87
Started with delicate fragrance of white floral. Briny, but less vibrant than the 10YO. Pepper, juicy mandarain and mango, ripen plum and a hint of rose contribute to the sweetness. Kipper, lysol, freshly crushed leaves and dried hay found in an emptied glass.
    • Taste
      86 86
Medium body, rather round, gentle and sweet.
Sea salt was overwhelmed by the sweetness of mango and honey. Mild bitterness. The pepper was much milder (again comparing to the 10YO) on the palate. Costal peat smoke was became clearer along with chewing.
    • Finish
      85 85
Medium to long, less smoky. Saltiness and fragrance of mango lingered. Sugary sweetness returned after the bitterness.

This malt has the potential be be stellar and personally I've tried mediocre, good, and very good versions of this malt in the past, too bad the one I bought a few years back was the worst of them, on par with the 10 at first and as time and air did their work it became worse and worse. If there's something to learn from it is that if you have tried one T18 you can't judge it as a whole and a retry from another batch is worth your while. Hopefully next one will be great again.... ;-)

One of those drams that exactly hits the spot: great balance with the flavour profile and the ABV, slightly oily and dry mouthfeel and the typical lovely long complex finish of Talisker. Yum.
    • Nose
      93 93
Smoke, peat, hints of jodium, cereal, dried fruits and a whiff of walnuts.
    • Taste
      95 95
Peat smoke, raisins, dried figs, biscuits and olive brine.
    • Finish
      98 98
Long and very complex with peat, dried fruits and some grainy notes.

Delicious whisky, unfortunately missing the special one and a few%. I also like the wildness and youth of the Talisker 10 a little better.
    • Nose
      85 85
Nice and fruity, with a lot of vanilla and caramel, plus cinnamon. There is also a little smoke, but no comparison to the "wilder" Talisker 10 years. Apricots, pears, possibly even cherries, plus milk chocolate and spices. Appears valuable, complex and well coordinated, but something special is missing.
    • Taste
      84 84
It is soft, a little smoke and fruit, plus pepper and iodine.
    • Finish
      82 82
Fruity and soft, with a little oak, medium length.

Overall fresh, complex greatly put together! Smoke nicely woven underneath some intense aromas. There's fresh fruits, behaved smoke and a strong coastal character in play.
    • Nose
      88 88
Oranges and peaches, pomelo, sherry fruits in honey, sweet and sour. Green tea herbs, leather, wet rocks and a salty sea breeze.
      Not overly complex, but great.
    • Taste
      89 89
Oily and soft. Crisp mineral start building up in soft peppery spices and smoke, before rolling off into sweet honeyed fruit and vanilla with a slight coffee-like bitterness.
    • Finish
      88 88
Long lasting. Gentle, fruity lychee syrup, warming and spicy. Sweet malt and some pepper, fresh bitter herbs, light smoke and something very lightly metallic in the final end.

I am not a peated whisky fan, but this is special. Considering the price, it is an instant buy, no wonder it is where it is. (almost 88/100 after 1000+ reviews)

    Bargain alert!
    • Nose
      87 87
Initially peat, citruses, vanilla...then getting sweeter. Tangerine, pomelo (bit of bitterness), candied fruits. Then the spicey part arrives. Cloves, allspice, semi-sweet (oatmeal) cookies. Sea (for me without the brine, just) freshness.

      Mindblowing!

With Water: Sour, Kiwi, Orange, Apple, Ripening Gooseberry.
    • Taste
      86 86
Fruity, citrus mix, 'natural fruity sweetness'. Peat takes over with salt, then roasted sunflower seeds. I love this 'soft' peat.
    • Finish
      87 87
Medium-long finish. Rounded epilogue, minimum burn (to me it was burn not pepper, but I can be wrong.) Fruitiness makes a surprise return. Stunning!

A damn good Dram for a reasonable price these days (85 EUR for 18 years) . Nose no surprises similar to the 10 but more body: Ripe Oranges , Vanilla, fresh Wood, leather some slight sourness( lemon) in the background lovely smoke / Cold Bonfire, BBQ. Taste: Sweet Orange, ripe banana, intense Vanilla, honey, Salty/ Sea, Dark choclate/ espresso, cinnemon white pepper , ginger , smoke and BBQ in the background . FINISH: Ginger, white Pepper, lemoncest, oak and the smoke. ( Rather long than medium) ... Perfectly round easily hits 90 in my book after adding few drops of water i give it 91 gives it more volume and complexity and smoke :)) (herbs flowers hard to get). One of the best OB i opened this year. Btw it's either my subjective Feeling/ senses but I notice overall more smoke than in my last 2014 Bottle almost Islay level but just almost...lovely

I like the Taliskers with age statement. What the 18 looses on the 10 in oomph, it gains in finish and overall composition. Maybe I like the DIst.Ed.’s even better? Nevertheless, this is a nice one. Can take some water, but is perfectly pallatable neat. When at a reasonable price: buy!

Medium heavy. Brine. Iodine. Mineral: clay(?). Lemon oil. Crayons. Fresh open fire in the background, not overt.

Warm, oily, sweet-sour arival. Long development starts intense with smoke and salt. Develops into warm, juicy citrusfruit.

The iodine invades you and sticks to your skin. Coarse salt, foam, seaweed, brine, all balanced by vanilla. It's fresh, invigorating. Plus a touch of smoke that bewitches, a few hints of sherry to give thickness. Leather, and some nuts, but barely. It must be recognized that the whole forms a perfect mixture. In the mouth, it is smooth, very oily. White fruits, vanilla, spices, pomegranate. Sweet finish despite the pepper, woody, very long, a little caramel warms us up. Red plum in the retro-olfaction. It's high-level work, for a bit expensive all the same.

Here I am careful because this malt is exactly mine.

The nose is nothing special but very pleasant. Normally one discovers aromas behind the smoke. Here you will discover delicate smoke behind fine aromas. That makes the difference. Lemon, oranges, vanilla .... everything. Mint leaves sprinkled with honey. Add a little toffee.
    • Taste

Waxy, full-bodied, very soft body, ingenious! In addition sweet smoke with lively tingling on the tongue. Medium to long, only slightly the typical Talisker note. Gorgeous warming and very well balanced, he goes off the stage. You can feel smoky liquorice in the outgoing log fire. What a performance. Now even tender malty pepper. Am thrilled. Refill is announced.

Ozone, iodine, delicate smoke and peat, sea freshness and salt, vanilla notes, canned fruits, fresh bandage, freshly cut board. 22
    • Taste
Medium dry. Smoky-peat motifs, pepper, salt, minerality, oak barrel. 21
    • Finish
Long, fading smoothly. Mineral and pleasant phenolic shades dominate, oak; near the end of the dram, a bitter beer appears. 22
Very smooth, solid, rounded, whisky whisky. Balance - 23.
With water - the aroma adds a lacquer-acetone notes, but quite pleasant. The taste becomes sweeter and more rounded.

first smoke. Reminiscent of the 10s, but then pretty soon fruits, which are the 10er not at all.

The sherry barrels are immediately noticeable. In addition, I have old leather, some Mentholfrische, grapes, apples
    • Taste
Green apples, nice camp fire smoke, a very pleasant wood note. The malt definitely has a decent spice, but it seems to me much milder and rounder than the 10, but the 18 is less sweet than the 10.

    Conclusion and pictures on: https://tomtrinkt.de
    • Nose
An intense interplay of light smoke, fruity-sweet sherry aromas, maritime notes (salt) and floral hints is immediately present. The alcohol (45.8%) is well integrated, only a short time after pouring a slight cooling in the nose was perceptible during deeper breaths. Plenty of caramel, freshly cut grass, oranges, sweet sherry notes, red fruits (predominantly wild berries), spices, salt and oak notes complete the harmonious and elegant nose. One notices the Talisker the maturity of at least 18 years. The wild and impetuous notes of the 10-year-old are almost completely gone.
    • Taste
The texture of the Talisker is oily and relatively soft. Full-bodied spread many red fruits (especially cherries and plums), juicy oranges, a pinch of freshly ground pepper and smoke. The smoke is now more intense to unfold and contrasts beautifully with the sweet and fruity sherry notes. Caramel, delicate hints of tropical fruit, a hint of dark chocolate, spices (thyme & rosemary) follow. A salty sea breeze lays like a thin veil over the other flavors. Very harmonious and smooth, without corners and edges.
    • Finish
Medium to long, fruity-spicy, smoky and slightly warming. Fruity-sweet berries and citrus fruits slowly fade away after a hint of pepper. Woody-spicy notes, a touch of leather, dark chocolate and smoke take over the scepter. The salty sea breeze remains pleasantly present. On the palate lingers a slight dryness.

A good mouthfeel, but not as creamy as the 10. The nuance that age brings (the diminishing of the peat and the enhancing of cask influence) makes this one a very enjoyable dram.
    • Nose
Mixed red fruits and sweet citrus, soft malt, soft baking spices, and a light smoke and saltiness.
    • Taste
Oak tannins and smoked dried fruits, savory herbs (oregano or sage), and a touch of caramel.
    • Finish
Soft wood smoke and custard and a bit of salty savoriness.

Groooooosse disappointment here !! I'm a big fan of Talisker, I do not find myself in this bottle ... Talisker markers are almost absent, the pleasure is very limited ... Maybe this is me but I have the bottle repeatedly and c is always the same thing!
    • Nose
Farm peat, malt, but not marine / iodized side, total absence of exotic fruits and pepper ... A wonder even if it is a Talisker in my glass!

Whiskydream.de rates him like this: Talisker 18 years (Region: Sky Island / OA / 45.8 Vol /%) The Talisker 18 smells clear, fresh and flowery. Light sweetish flavors (caramel), some mash, a little fresh grass are added. Everything is wrapped in soft smoke. (84) Immediately salty sweetness spreads in the mouth with soft smoke. Then pepper and finally dry oak comes to it. A typical Talisker, only slightly rounder and temperate than his younger brothers. (87) The medium to long finish is very creamy-round and slightly warming. (85) Overall rating: 85 points Repurchase probability: 50%, good, tasty whisky, but there are cheaper and at least equivalent Talisker. More info: http://whiskydream-de.webnode.com/tastings-az/t/

    Color: amber.
A rich aroma with sweet fruits in the nose, Victoria plums, Reineclaude, perhaps dried orange peel. Butterscotch or rum toffee and a hint of smoke behind it. The smoke comes to the fore and the toffee note is complemented by fine mint.
With a little water, as appropriate, the maritime notes emerge, dry boat varnish and edible seaweed. Still sweet, now with notes of iodine and the smoke aroma of a matchstick head.
Taste: Superficially sweet, then certain, a hint of smoke. The overall effect is warming, evolving towards smoke, coal tar and toffee.
In the body full, pleasant, soft. In the finish medium long, the peppery typical Taliskernote is fine but present, some smoke in the finish.

A great, balanced malt with excellent nose, fine and subtle fruit, vanilla and smoke. I like the persistent liquorice note very well. In cask strength he would probably be a poem. 90 P.
    • Nose
First, wood smoke, salted butter, the smoke gives way to a maritime sweetness, Bismarck herring with cream toffees, bananas and mirabelle plums, clear vanilla, freshly baked waffles with vanilla sauce, fir resin, herbals, aniseed and fennel, eukal-e-cough drops
    • Taste
fruity and elegant, soft to the touch, smoke only in the background, not dry, sweetness predominates, sea flavor and licorice

Very mild spiciness, mouthwash (Odol), again sweet and not very smoky, licorice spreads, no pepper explosion like the younger brother but very long, keeps a long warming in the throat

n: just lovely! the smoke is so gentle and so well integrated. we can still clearly
smell the talisker profile and it is even a little flattering.
wet beach, sea air, salted caramel, chestnuts.
with the time we are getting a little old leather extra and the smell of cotton mill.
t:  oily and very broad on the tongue. medium sweet with a little bitter oak
but everything is well-balanced. quite salty  again in combination with caramel.
