Whisky Reviews for Bruichladdich 1986

2 users have left a review for this whisky and scored it an average of 86.68 points

  1. Lorion scored this whisky 90 points Expert Senior

The nose takes time, then it becomes extremely good. The Gaumem is incredibly good. The finish can not quite keep up. But he has earned 90 points. The air-ripened nose and the palate would eat another 1-2 points more.
    • Nose
Raisins. Chocolate covered raisins. Add sherry and spicy wood. Some fried banana with cinnamon and burnt sugar. Then plums go through and forest. Earth, truffles, berries. In the background you can guess with a little bit of spicy cheese. Shortbread with pepper. The alcohol is also there and cools the nose. More time makes your nose so much better. Intense. So much chocolate. Whole milk! Leather, fermented fruit. Prunes, figs. But the nose needs that time, at first it was a bit too harsh.
    • Taste
Sweet and chocolaty. Grape juice, plums and figs. Walnuts, leather and fermented fruit flavors. Discreet tobacco begins, which increases with the swallowing. Cherry becomes clear. Raisins and dark chocolate in the dessert.
    • Finish
For a long time there are dark fruits and chocolate. Longer remains aromatic tobacco.

  2. Hemdl scored this whisky 89 points Connoisseur

Really nice malt, the fun in the glass prepares. Nice nose, great taste. In the departure then with slight deductions, which only partially damages the overall impression.
Unfortunately now only to get rid of absurd prices, which can never be justified. If that were not so, that would be guaranteed to be one of the malts, of which you can sometimes provide 2-3 bottles.
    • Nose
Gentle sherry nose, extremely fruity notes. Less the extremely dark sherry notes like raisins or dark chocolate. This one goes in the other direction - juicy honeydew melon, fully ripe (green) grapes, pears. With some time in the background subtly spicy oak comes to it, the fruitiness decreases slightly and the malt is now a bit tart.
    • Taste
The nose is quite similar, the fruit notes are back, especially the pears and grapes. Very sweet, despite the oak spice in the background. Not necessarily the "sherry board" that you might have expected, rather a beautiful and balanced malt. That's really fun, the reduced alcohol level brings there certainly some fruit flavors forward.
    • Finish
In the finish now clear maturity and the influence of the barrel. The tannins leave the mouth slightly dry, the malt warms despite the "only" 46% pleasant throat. Criticism at a high level - the total departure could be a bit longer.
