Classic Clynelish with beautiful refill sherry influence. The low ABV is no issue here.
    • Taste
      87 87
Sweet and mild refill juice with just the slightest tingle from the oak.
    • Finish
      88 88
Chocolate and espresso. Very good again.

I loved the Clynelish 14, which is ofcourse a little more accessible, and wanted yo try a more mature Clynelish. I'm trying this next to the 14.

Overall: I like this one very much, but I would rather buy two clynelish 14.

As with the 14, I like the nose of this Clynelish very much. For non peated whiskies, this is just very typical and lovely. It's not that prominent as the 14, but more subtle and refined; round. I like that. Nothing alcoholic or harschness. Lemon zest, earthy, 'lemon insect repellent..?', vanilla, honey, a little flowery and ofcourse clynelish-waxy. The slower you inhale, the better, I really dig it. I could sniff this all day.
    • Taste
      85 85
Very friendly and gentle at first, than a little pepper. A hint of smoke/paper/earth. Banana, nutty, a little bit oily nut very little. It's not as sweet as it smells but it's very nice. I was expecting a little bit more after the nose, but I had the same with the 14. Nevertheless, very pleasant.
    • Finish
      82 82
The finish is a little bit bitter and peppery, a little apple maybe. I find it a short/medium length. A little bit longer than the 14 but still rather short.

I always like clynelish, but thus one is a little bit flat. Sure I like the waxy candle stuff and earthy flavour, but it's not that lively.

Good, but not excellent, 1997. What is left behind by the low abv. Nose is the best and clear Clynelish for me. Taste is somewhat watery, the finish is just firm with a spicy pepper and long. Too bad of the light, flat level of taste otherwise this could have been a topper.

Lovely nose, good clynelish mouth, tastes stronger than than the abv, very good. But better to get a single cask bottling for this price.
    • Nose
      Lovely nose
    • Taste
A bit of fly spray when you come back to it.
