- From the OA range 12j, 15j and 18j of Bowmore this is easy for me before the 15j. Delicious, elegant, smoky malt with a beautiful fruity sweetness. Dangerously tasty.
intensive dried fruits; Caramel; delicate smoky note; Chocolate; very supple
gentle and full-bodied; sweet with notes of dark fruits; Chocolate; pleasantly spicy in the background; delicate smoke that is beautifully integrated
fruity; tingling spiciness on the tongue; tenderly smoky

- Like the Darkest, Bowmore 18 is matured in both bourbon and sherry casks. Unlike the Darkest the sherry maturation here provides an extra layer of complexity rather than ham-fistedly dominating the entire experience. The nose arrives with the pleasurable, signature Bowmore "cough drops" smell, which is accompanied by oloroso creaminess, a light brine and a mixture of fruits (dried apricots, gentle orange, and hints of sultana). The palate is decently coating with a sweet, citrus arrival after which the sherry cream comes to the fore, finally there a gentle spike of heat from the wood. This fades into a long, smokey finish, with traces of the cough drops returning as well. Given that it is chill-filtered, coloured, and bottled at 43%, Bowmore 18 still manages to impress with a compelling profile and no obvious off-notes.
